Ashley Castle
[edit]I think this entry refers to nearby MERDON CASTLE. The castle at Ashley is first mentioned in documentary evidence granting a license to William Brimvere in 1200 to "crenellate the Castle", i.e. to build a fortified structure. The castle was probably a ring-work - a mound with a ditch rather than a motte and bailey. yannlawYannlaw (talk) 14:15, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
