Population doubling?

[edit]

Why would the population of the city, and the number of households, double between the 2000 and the 2010 census? Activist (talk) 07:57, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Suburban growth associated with the city of Columbia mostly. Ashland has boomed as a bedroom community thanks to its position halfway between Jefferson City and Columbia. Grey Wanderer (talk) 11:53, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I wondered if it hadn't annexed some big subdivisions. That's a huge amount of population growth for any small city, but I presume that folks in Columbia (university connected?) or Jeff City, found it much more affordable, offset in tolerable trade for a brief commute.
