Difference
[edit]What's the difference between "statistical impressions" and "total detections?" 203.212.135.26 20:42, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Total Number 1's wrong.
[edit]Lady GaGa has 7 number ones now, (Just Dance,Poker Face, Lovegame, Paparazzi, Bad Romance, Telephone and Born This Way.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.80.76.250 (talk) 22:23, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
ALL RIGHT WIKIPEDIA PUNKS
[edit]This is only called POP SONGS on billboard.com: it is the informal title. The name is TOP 40 MAINSTREAM. --Whoaman35 —Preceding undated comment added 23:27, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
most no, 1;s.
[edit]Rihanna does not have 7, but 5 number 1's on this chart. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.214.4.43 (talk) 12:37, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
BDS CHR/Top 40 and BDS Canada CHR/Mainstream
[edit]If Nielsen BDS has CHR/Top 40 for the US and CHR/Top 40 (50 songs) for Canada, then why is there not a page for CAN CHR/Mainstream?

Most weekly deections
[edit]Are they really that important? The article says itself that the record is broken quite often, and the stats are not updated regularly. ZoharN (talk) 19:33, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Mainstream Top 40 (Pop Songs) → Mainstream Top 40 – Already redirects here Unreal7 (talk) 15:15, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- Support. Parentheticals are not used for alternative at Wikipedia. — AjaxSmack 20:23, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- Comment I'm not against the move but both names are used by Billboard and can be found in reliable sources using one or the other. An option would be Mainstream Top 40/Pop Songs since the current title isn't the actual name and a parenthetical generally implies disambiguation on Wikipedia, which this also is not. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 18:31, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Where is the Chart?
[edit]I can't find the chart itself in this article. I want to look at the chart, refer to the chart. I want to see the chart at week X of year Y. And remember "oh I remember that song playing that week, that year, on the radio". But I don't see the chart. Where is the chart going to be archived if not at wikipedia? How can we discuss the chart without displaying the chart? Rtdrury (talk) 08:19, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
Title
[edit]This chart is only known as "Pop Songs" on Billboard.com. It's official title on Billboard.biz and in Billboard Magazine is Mainstream Top 40, so why was the name changed?
- It is commonly known as Pop Songs. — Calvin999 22:42, 8 October 2015 (UTC)
Requested move 11 October 2015
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: moved to Mainstream Top 40. There was a clear consensus to move away from the current title and "Mainstream Top 40" got the most support of all the various alternatives provided. It also has the advantage of being the previous consensus title. Jenks24 (talk) 05:41, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
Pop Songs (Billboard chart) → Pop Songs – I know I proposed a move to an alternative title two years ago, but that was only because it seemed the most convenient title at the time. Now, the most convenient title appears to be this one, which already redirects here anyway. Unreal7 (talk) 09:51, 11 October 2015 (UTC) --Relisted. sst✈ 08:10, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
- Support. Hatnote is sufficient, and WP:DIFFCAPS applies. sst✈ 11:01, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- Move to Mainstream Top 40/Pop Songs or some variation thereof. Chart is only referred to Pop Songs on the Billboard website since 2009 but is still well known as "Mainstream Top 40" (called that since its inception in 1992 and to this day) in print publication, its business/subscription website and many online sources. Both names are equally valid and even Billboard, the primary source, uses both interchangeably. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 17:58, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose and Move to Mainstream Top 40/Pop Songs as above In ictu oculi (talk) 12:15, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose per Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars; and Oppose "Mainstream Top 40/Pop Songs" as that uses a WP:SLASH that makes it look like a WP:SUBPAGE and have subpage problems with its talk page. And we don't use double titles when the topic has two separate titles in use. Alternate Billboard Mainstream Top 40 or Billboard Pop Songs per WP:NATURALDAB -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 04:47, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
- A return to Mainstream Top 40 works for me. Pop Songs would also then redirect to it, just as before. Only the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 use Billboard in the chart name. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 19:38, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

What radio show?
[edit]The subject of this article is the eponymous Billboard magazine music chart. Yet the article section “All-time chart achievements” (currently article section number 3) refers to "Mainstream Top 40 co-hosts, Gary Trust and Trevor Anderson" which seems to signify a particular regular radio program and its disc jockeys. Wikipedia users are left juggling multiple ideas and are caught in the crossfire as both of the two shoot it out seeking semantic supremacy. This second "Mainstream Top 40" ought to be removed or more specifically identified, because this one article ain't big enough for them two discrete concepts. catsmoke (talk) 15:31, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
Data from Mediabase not Nielsen
[edit]As of the end of 2022, Billboard gets its airplay data from Mediabase not Nielsen.
Pop airplay significant achievements
[edit]2023 marked the first year ever since the charts creation that two singles each spent at least ten weeks at the number one spot. These songs were Miley Cyrus's "Flowers" and Taylor Swift's "Cruel Summer". I think this should be a highlight on the pop airplay page. Thank you. 165.165.96.46 (talk) 20:35, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
