"2014 Badaun gang rape"?

[edit]

Article states: "...the film is inspired by multiple true life events including 2014 Badaun gang rape allegations.." The author of the script himself mentioned the Badaun gang rape in an interview. [1]

It must be noted that "Badaun gang rape" allegation was completely false. The alleged victims were not dalit, and the alleged perpetrator was not significantly higher case. They were "Shakya" (vegetable growers) and "Yadav" (cow herder). There was no gang rape, and in all likelyhood, there was no suicide. It appears to be a case of an affair and an honor killing.

This case is an excellent example of trial-by-press and widespread misreporting by the press, specially the English press. The Hindi press was able to dig out the details. Please read 2014 Badaun gang rape allegations article.

It is notable that Gaurav Solanki, the author of Article 15, has made the culprit a Brahmin, although he acknowledges that he is inspired by the "Badaun gang rape" case. He is obviously not aware of the misrepresentation by the press. Note that the Brahmin samaj has protested.[2] People from all communities are capable of committing a crime, although a look at the numerous reports suggest that Brahmins are rarely involved in oppression of the dalits. In overwhelming majority of cases, it is Dalit vs landowners.
