DOB?

[edit]

I read that he (Arthur MacArthur, Sr.) was born on January 26, 1817[1].--Solomonfromfinland (talk) 21:08, 27 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Library of Congress, the U.S. Federal Judicial Center, the Wisconsin Historical Society, MacArthur's own tombstone, and other reputable sources all give his birthdate as 1815. 32.218.34.11 (talk) 21:47, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Seems convincing. I have put it back. I note that his father died in 1817. Hawkeye7 (talk) 22:05, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Descent

[edit]

The Early Life section states that Arthur was descended from Scottish Highland nobility; who would this be, exactly? The worlds MacArthurs are potentially part of Clan Arthur, whose last chieftain (up to then) died in 1771 without an heir; if Arthur was related at all it must have been pretty distantly or he would have got the job. Is this a claim he made for himself, or is it something that popped up in some hagiography later? Anyone know? Moonraker12 (talk) 14:51, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why did he switch Parties in 1865?

[edit]

There's no explanation, it seems like a weird year to make a switch to me. KuudereKun 16:39, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
