Please do not delete this new article, thanks. I was surprised that Gilbert did not have an entry on Wikipedia as he is very well known in California as one of the region's influential artists from the 20s and 30s. His prominence has grown as have the prices of his works when they occasionally come to auction houses such as the subsidiary of Bonhams, Butterfield and Butterfield on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles, thanks a million. --keane4 00:53, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
As the new article states, Gilbert was a well known American Impressionist painter, notable as one practioners of the California style. Today, he is remembered for his large, colorful canvasas depicting meadows and groves of trees along the California Coast. Gilbert was part of the group of American impressionist artists who lived and painted in "colonies" in California at Carmel and Laguna Beach during the 1920s and 1930s. (etc.)
