[edit]I am surprised he is not free yet since most Maryland prisoners serve half their sentence. Anyone have any knowledge of this? John celona 17:16, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Plagiarism?
[edit]The first paragraph of Background borrows too heavily from http://crimemagazine.com/03/arthurbremer,0914.htm I think it may constitute plagiarism.71.63.119.49 02:25, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
- the entire article reads like it's been lifted directly from other sources. it's pathetic. Anastrophe 04:50, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Terrorist?
[edit]Does anyone else think it's strange that in the first sentence it says he is a terrorist? I'm not sure that's the best way to describe him. What he did certainly isn't good, but none of the other political assassins, or attempted assassins (Sirhan Sirhan, John Wilkes Booth, John Hinckley, Leon Czolgosz, Giuseppe Zangara, etc) are called terrorists in their articles. Since this is a less prominent article than those, I assume the wording here is less carefully chosen. I'm changing it from calling him a terrorist to just an assassin. If I'm wrong in my assumptions, please correct me. KenFehling (talk) 07:50, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- Bremer's motive was to become infamous, to gain attention form the media and general public. The shooting he did was not politically motivated, he merely chose a high-profile politician because shooting him would receive a great deal of attention, many times more than if he had shot an ordinary civilian instead. He didn't even have anything against Wallace. Therefore Bremer cannot be accurately described as a terrorist, even though his victim was a politician. Nietzsche 2 (talk) 02:11, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
Asperger's Syndrome
[edit]It makes me wonder having read about Bremer and his life in the Denise Noe and James W Clarke's account's, whether he had either Asperger's Syndrome or Schizoid Personality Disorder, as much of his behaviour has been Aspie like, apart from the shooting.
Successful Assassins?
[edit]Just thought I'd question describing Oswald and Booth as succssful assassins. I don't intend to make any changes, justing putting it out there that some might think it's a little questionable. Semantics, pretty boring I know. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.46.60.162 (talk) 21:30, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Question about his diary
[edit]We say that his diary was published as a book, and then we go on to say that the first half of it was found, apparently many years later. This section doesn't really have good references, though. Was the first half ever published? It seems like we should tell the reader.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 13:14, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- Nope. It was sold to the dean of the U of Alabama-Birmingham's med school, who donated it to their Reynolds Historical Library. Excerpts were released to the press over the years, the largest portion after the Alabama purchase; they ran in the Birmingham News and elsewhere. I'll add some of this to the article. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:17, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

There is a lot of interesting information here, but the poor writing quality leads me to question its accuracy. Honestly, this thing reads like a bad high school essay.

Bremer's plan to assassinate Nixon
[edit]The article claims that Bremer was at one time close enough to observe Richard Nixon and says it was in Ottawa, Wisconsin. On April 13 1972 Richard Nixon was in Ottawa Canada, and Bremer would have found it very hard to get near Nixon in a foreign country and almost impossible to get there with a revolver. I have searched newspapers.com in several different ways looking for a Nixon speech before a live American audience during that time and found none in the United States, though he did deliver speeches on Vietnam and forced busing on television. In the spring of 1972 Nixon visited China, Canada and Soviet Russia and was not in public-campaigning mode at the time. This brings into question whether Bremer actually seriously planned to kill Nixon at all.
Also, the George Wallace speech in Milwaukee on March 23 was not at an airport hotel but at a downtown convention center, which that night also featured a benefit for outgoing defense secretary Melvin Laird in another area. Wallace held a press conference before the rally, likely at the airport location. The Wisconsin State Journal (Madison WI) for March 24 (page 1) states "Wallace flew into Milwaukee Wednesday night for a full day of campaigning Thursday capped by a downtown rally Thursday night next door to a Republican fund raising dinner honoring Secretary of Defense Melvin Laird."

Controversial?
[edit]As in controversion to the Wiki article, an article in LIFE (Vol.72 No. 20, 26. May 1972 pp 4, 32) is painting at least Bremer's mother in a way more positive light. It makes me also wonder that there is seemingly no further info about Bremer's mental health available.

Influence on Taxi Driver
[edit]The article says that Bremer's diary was an inspiration for the main character in Taxi Driver, but Paul Shrader, the screenwriter, said this was not the case (Source: Q&A at the Tribeca Film Festival for the 40th anniversary screening, as seen on the Blu-Ray extras). I have added the inline "disputed" tag for now but I suggest this line be removed. - Quark1005 (talk) 02:17, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
The revolver was auctioned in 2014
[edit]Rock Island Auction House has it listed here [1] and it was sold with a bunch of historical paperwork & such.
AP wrote a bit about it in 2014 too [2].
