Receptions Record
[edit]The article states that Monk retired with the all-time receptions record. However, statistics on [1] seem to show that Jerry Rice passed him during the 1995 season, while he was still technically active. I'd like to re-word the sentence in the aritcle, but I wanted to post a message here first and make sure I'm not mistaken. --djrobgordon 20:28, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
This is a good catch (no pun intended!). I'm the user that had included that update, based on my recollection and based on a series of articles I'd read making the same claim. It seems that Rice caught Monk during the last week of the 1995 season. Hopefully the latest change sets this straight. --batukhan 13:32, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Hall of Fame induction.
[edit]Has anyone ever said why he hasn't been inducted into the hall of fame until today February 2, 2008??? Was it racial? Was if because of the position he played? Or beacuse of the orgaization he played for??? I'd really like to know. --Crash Underride 21:56, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
What I have heard is that Art Monk was a possession receiver, so his he doesn't have many yards per catch. Some of the voters don't like that. They prefer long-ball receivers who made the bigger splash. Also, some have pointed to Monk's quiet demeanor and have wondered if it's because he didn't draw much attention to himself like Irvin and some others have done. Gibbs has argued that Monk was important in many ways, including being an excellent blocker for the running game. Olav Smith (talk) 22:46, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
The main problem seems to be his lack of communication with reporters, especially out of town reporters, who he refused interviews with throughout his career. Many hold that against him, believing he was arrogant, but it seems he just is an introverted person who shied away from the limelight. Most other arguments have been debunked, like his supposed low yards per catch average, which is higher than current great Marvin Harrison and better than more than half the current wide recievers in the Hall.
Relative Distance
[edit]Does a first-cousin once-removed count as a distant relative? A parent's first cousin does not seem "distant". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.5.176.221 (talk) 03:55, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
- Agreed. IMO, you were right to remove the word "distant".--JayJasper (talk) 21:29, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
