Portals

[edit]

@Archives908: Hi! I read your edit summary.

I believe that each airline should have its respective country-specific portal(s), especially the case of flag carriers, which have branding, symbolism and history intertwined with their home countries. However I put in the Asia portal because Armenia's portal does not exist. If Armenia's portal did exist, I would feel it would not be necessary to put in the Asia portal. I was just using the Asia portal as a substitute.

Honestly, I think it would be best if there were an Armenia portal; Armenia has a quite long history.

Hello, I do completely agree that the Armenia portal should never have been deleted- however, per WP:CON reached years ago, most editors sadly voted in favor of deletion (along with many other country portals). I think the portal should be brought back.
The issue I have with adding continent portals to airlines is consistency. There are thousands of airline articles and its not feasible to add continent portals to each one. Airline articles are not meant to discuss the countries geography in depth- they should stay focused on the topic of the airline itself. Should readers wish to learn about Armenia's geography they can indeed learn more by clicking Armenia, which itself links to Geography of Armenia. Furthermore, issues could be raised about what continent some countries fall within (especially transcontinental states). For example, for Armenia, if you use a purely geographical definition then that would place the country in Asia. However, per consensus at Europe, most geopolitical definitions also place the countries of the Caucasus in Europe. You have used the geographical definition without consideration to the consensus that Armenia may also be listed as Europe. This issue could, in theory, come up again in other airline articles of countries like Georgia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Turkey, Cyprus, Russia, Kazakhstan, etc.
Also, I'm not sure if you are aware but Fly Arna was the flag carrier of Armenia up until a few weeks ago when the company was dissolved. It was subsequently removed from the flag carrier article. Has the government of Armenia already designated Armenia Airways as the new official flag carrier of the country? Do you have any WP:RS that can support your claim?
