Early political career

[edit]

re. the missing reference for "To quote his hero Napoleon, Rosebery thought that 'the Master of Egypt is the Master of India'; thus he pursued the policy of expansion in Africa.": He is quoting Napoleon with these words in his monograph "Napoleon: The Last Phase" (p. 199 of the 1900 London ed., link). Unfortunately, it is not apparent there that this would have been his own view, too, or that it prompted him pursuing a policy of expansion in Africa. --Anselm Schmidt (talk) 19:46, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Rumours

[edit]

Was there anything to Queensbury’s accusation? How was he regarded by his contemporaries? As it is, there is no more than the accusation. 2A00:23C3:E284:900:50F1:C224:AE78:C8C5 (talk) 22:04, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

“Hat!”

[edit]

He is supposed to have gone into Lobb’s and just shouted ‘hat!’ whenever he wanted a new hat. P.G.Wodehouse put him into a story, disguised as a New Yorker who went into some big hotel and yelled ‘stamp!’ when he wanted one. Would this be a good addition to the article, with the right references? 2A00:23C3:E284:900:50F1:C224:AE78:C8C5 (talk) 22:01, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
