Scissores or Scissoris?

[edit]

This article says Scissores, but the Scissor (gladiator type) article says Scissoris. Anyone know which it is? Allens (talk) 23:28, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lewis & Short (the ancient, online version at perseus) has scissoris as plural. Scissor (gladiator type) has been edited by Cynwolfe, who's a fluent Latinist. Um.... sorry, I thought I'd sorted it - but I've not, have I? This may be one of those "hard to assign and decline" nouns. Why not simply use the English "Scissors"? That's one possibility (using the English), although that both Lewis & Short and Cynwolfe say scissoris seems to indicate that it's that. (BTW, I have inquired of WLRoss as to his source on the scissors description in the List article.) Allens (talk) 00:40, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hoo, well; let's just scrub half (the worst half) of what I said above, and be of even less help already. This article has been edited by Cynwolfe, who's a fluent Latinist... yadda yadda... Haploidavey (talk) 00:29, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
