Crisis
[edit]I would like to recommend erasing or changing the following statement, located under the heading: "Identity Crisis"
- "With the pending War on Terrorism, and the increasing hostility towards "Arabs," a lot of people that may have previously identified as "Arab Christians" are identifying with their indigenous ancestors such as the inhabitants of Phoenicia (northern Canaan) which comprises most of modern-day Lebanon, and/or the Aramaeans of ancient Syria."
This statement may suggest that the inhabitants of the abovementioned areas, most of which are in fact not ethnically Arab, now feel pressured to not identify with the label "Arab". The only reason many Middle Easterners refer to themselves as Arabs is due to Arabization, which has been taking place for hundreds of years now, most notably in Iraq under the Ba'ath regime. This statement also seems to undermine these people's true non-Arab ethnicities.Šarukinu 00:14, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
