Family name
[edit]Aquila Kiani is listed in some sources as being born Aqila Begum, which is the female equivalent of Nawab (noble); her father was a Barlas. She is also listed as having the given name Aqila, but herself preferred the transliteration Aquila.
In the Institute for Cultural Research Fellows, she is listed as Aquila Berlas Kiani, not Barlas (having married a Kiani), and her memorial obituary lists her as Aquila Berlas Kiani. Variations in transliteration from Arabic and other languages to English often occur (eg some write Sayyid, some Sayed). Therefore I have used that preferred form and created page redirects for other variations.
