[edit]the appian way is awesome. i am doing Latin xtra credit on it!
like ya!
- Wicked article. Maybe someone should try and get it featured, however you do that. BennyFromCrossroads 15:58, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- You're so kind. However, this article, an early effort of mine, lacks refs and borders (or bordered) on being in the wrong tone. As you may have learned in trying to write your paper, one has to learn not to be poetic in an objective article. If you want poetry, you write poetry, and if you want encyclopedia articles, you do not mix it with poetry. I was setting a bad example (even though you can see many bad examples in the Encyclopedia Britannica). I sincerely hope you did not imitate this articles as it was.Dave (talk) 13:44, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Influences?
[edit]Would some information about, e.g., roads named "Appian Way" or "Via Appia" etc around the world be appropriate? --Sumple (Talk) 08:37, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- I would say, yes, in a separate chapter, at the bottom. --Korovioff 14:11, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
apiian way is great i agree, i think all the teachers should let kids use wikipedia —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.119.144.226 (talk) 18:19, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Sources and Tone
[edit]This article's tone needs to be reworked - there's references to we and suppositions ("Rome must have..."). There's also not a single citation on what is a lengthy article. ChronoSphere 20:48, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Tomb monuments
[edit]More on these is needed. They are not mentioned until right at the end. Johnbod (talk) 20:15, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Spartacus
[edit]I hate to break this to you, but Spartacus was killed in battle and his body was never recovered/found. He certainly wasn't crucified along the Appian way --1sneakers6 (talk) 11:12, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Via Norba
[edit]The article tells you that "Outside of Rome the new via Appia went through well-to-do suburbs along the via Norba, the ancient track to the Alban hills, where Norba was situated." I have never heard about this via Norba, so what's the source for this? Neither was Norba situated in the Alban hills, but in the Monte Lepini, South of the Alban hills. In general, this article is badly referenced. - comment added by TJR Lanjouw (talk • contribs) 17:01, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Revert of old edits?
[edit]There have been two edits (http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Appian_Way&oldid=359345360, http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Appian_Way&oldid=359338918) that edited content without sources and in strange ways ("to prepare for retreat"?!). In May 2010 a request for references was added to those two edits, none have been provided. I think it would be appropriate to revert those edits by now. Crxs (talk) 14:14, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
"traced their backgrounds to the Etruscans"
[edit]I wouldn't state "traced their backgrounds to the Etruscans" as a fact, as this point been debated for decades now, with supporters and opponents (I think more opponents than supporters among modern Roman researchers). So, you may want to qualify this statement. Ronbarak (talk) 19:07, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
Total Lenght?
[edit]How long was the original road? Any inforation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.46.10.88 (talk) 02:49, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
Map?
[edit]The article currently contains several photographs of the Appian Way in various places, but does not have a single map showing its relationship between Rome and Brindisi. Commons does not seem to have any such maps, either. Could someone please provide one? — Loadmaster (talk) 20:35, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
