Incorrect spelling

This article has a very unfortunate start -- it is based on a misspelling. The correct and most used spelling is annulus.... Even Gray's Anatomy uses the correct spelling (of course). Before it gets linked to too often, the contents need to be transferred to an article with the correct name -- "Annulus fibrosus". It is currently used as a redirect, when in fact it is this one that should be the redirect. How ironic! -- Fyslee 10:21, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe both are correct. According to a_50/12143724 at Dorland's Medical Dictionary's (which cross references to terminologia anatomica), the primary name is "anulus", not "annulus", with the version having two "N"s is given as an alternate. My Netter's Atlas (ISBN 1416033858, 2006) only lists "anulus" (plates 19 and 155.) My Gray's Anatomy (ISBN 0443066124, 2005) does list it as "annulus" (pages 41 and 169). --Arcadian 12:23, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My sincerest apologies to Arcadian, who is correct that both spellings are used. I have never seen the singular "n" version in any of my medical textbooks and have therefore considered it to be a misspelling, but apparently Terminologia Anatomica uses the singular "n" version.

"Note: Either anulus or annulus is correct spelling. Nomina Anatomica uses both forms whereas Terminologia Anatomica states "anulus fibrosus." 18,21 Fibrosus, has no correct alternative spelling; fibrosis has a different meaning and is incorrect in this context."
