[edit]As a violinist in the Brico Symphony, I remember that Antonia Brico once said that Judy Collins had been one of her most talented piano students. When Judy told her that she was abandoning the piano in favor of singing, Dr. Brico said, "You are giving up a brilliant career". Of course, Dr. Brico didn't know at that time how famous Judy Collins would become as a singer. Not many people know that in addition to perfect pitch, Dr. Brico also had absolute pitch, a very rare ability. If the oboist was not available, Dr. Brico could sing a perfect "A" (440 hz) for the orchestra to tune to. The movie "Antonia: Portrait of a Woman" features one of Brico's young piano students, Helen Palacas. In high school, Helen was a violinist in the Brico Symphony when she wasn't performing as a concert pianist. ^^^^
