He was the first AMERICAN swimmer of African descent to medal in Olympic swimming.[1]

The quote 'first swimmer of african descent' needs reduced to 'American swimmer of african descent': In 1988 Anthony Nesty, from Suriname, won gold on 100m butterfly and in 1976 Enith Brigitha, from Aruba, won 2 freestyle medals for the Netherlands.

Anthony Ervin says he is not Native American

[edit]

On Democracy Now!, Anthony Ervin today said that contrary to popular belief, he believes his father is not of Native American descent. Starting here at 55:30:

AMY GOODMAN: Your father is African-American, Native American?
ANTHONY ERVIN: Not Native American. That was debunked. He believes it, and all of his—a bunch of his family believe it. But then, one of my sisters researched it; apparently it’s not true. I think that’s kind of common.
AMY GOODMAN: Well—
ANTHONY ERVIN: But I read it all the time, and it’s like—it’s not true. If it’s Native American, it’s just because there’s a history dating back to slave days and fighting in the Civil War and the Revolutionary War in my family.

Given this, and given that there's no actual source in the article stating he's Native American, I went ahead and removed all Native American references from the article. Trinitresque (talk) 23:43, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Added information around Tourette Syndrome

[edit]

I just added a section on Ervin having Tourette Syndrome. I had difficulty confirming the dates he was an ambassador for the Tourette Syndrome Association of America. All sources said ending in 2018 and I put in the article 2017-2018 since that was when both articles were written. If this is an incorrect way to address this, feel free to change.

Also, I forgot to summarize my changes before publishing. My bad. Alhill42 (talk) 20:39, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
