need a more neutral style of writing

This article does not read well for the general reader. For example, "he can really blast it, or play it cool, crisp and soulful". This sentence has little meaning for those of us not well versed in this field. Since Wikipedia is meant for a broad audience, can someone please rewrite this to be useful for a Wikipedia audience?
