What the heck?
[edit]Come on Gavin, do you even read the articles you tag? Someone just today added a reference to this book being on the NY Times Best Seller list, and you tag it with {{notability}}? -Drilnoth (talk) 13:31, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
- Notability is distinct from "fame," "importance," or "popularity," although these may positively correlate with it. Being on a list, even a best selling list is not evidence of notability - see WP:BK. Evidence of notability is provided by multiple, non-trivial, published works whose sources are independent of the book. Non-trivial treatment excludes mere mention of the book, its author or of its publication, price listings and other nonsubstantive detail treatment. Please restore the notability template. --Gavin Collins (talk) 13:42, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
Input for this article has been requested at the WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons main page. -Drilnoth (talk) 13:45, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
- The article at WP:BK begins with "This page documents an English Wikipedia notability guideline. It is a generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow, though it is best treated with common sense and the occasional exception." I suggested using sales figures as a way to prove notability, it currently being discussed here. To say that having a small number of newspaper or magazine reviewers mention a poorly selling book makes it notable, just because these few people liked it, while at the same time stating that another book that was not reviewed by them, but which had millions of fans that bought it, is not notable, I believe violates the "common sense" part of at the top of the notability guidelines. The article is justified, I vote Keep and let it be. Dream Focus (talk) 19:53, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
