Was her father really a slave[edit]

Anne Gamble Kennedy was born in 1920. Her father would have needed to be born before 1865 to be a slave. Which would make him 55 at her birth. However for the wording to be correct, he really would have needed to be at least 60 when she was born. I am dubious of this claim.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:28, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is a biiography of Anne Gamble Kennedy. On reading past versions I realized I had confused myself. It was her grandmother who was born in slavery. Unfortunately the West Virginia Culture link on her father that was the source is not working. Based on the time she was born, unless we have better evidence than we have, to use words that inply that her grandmother lived under slavery very long is saying more than is justified by our sources. Her grandmother is very unlikely to have been born before 1855, and thus was not a slave her entire youth. Actually most likely her grandmother was born in the 1860s, so would have barely recalled the days of slavery.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:35, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Horrible style, unbalanced[edit]

I have cut back on some of the unencyclopedic style issues in this article, but some still seem to persist. Open questions:

1. Is it encyclopedic to mention who paid for her wedding? That seems more detail than we need in an encyclopedia. Most article at most mention when and where a wedding occured.

2. Why do we have the full contents of her last faculty recital mentioned?

3. Why are we name dropping those who instructed her in music, even in cases where we lack articles on these people?John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:48, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
