Earliest Known composer of devotional Music
[edit]Please do more reaserach on this issue. There are many Kannada haridasas who are earlier than Annamcharya. please refer to Haridasa and Yathidasa lineage in "haridasas of Karnataka" link in Haridasa page. like Annamacharya who sang sankIrtanas, the Kannada dasas sang devaranamas mostly for Panduranga Vitthala and Krishna. The Saints who are earlier are
Madananda Tirtha - 1238 - 1317
Padmanaba Tirtha - 1317 - not sure
Narahari Tirtha - 1324 - Not sure
Madhava Tirtha 1333
Sripadaraya seems to be contemporary of Annamacharya.
Moreover, just singing kirtana's does not make it carnatic music. There is much more to it.
please refer to section on Carnatic music.
Dinesh Kannambadi
There are some 9295 Tamil songs in Tevaram set to music and sung from 7th century CE plus Araiyar singing 4000 songs devoted to Vishnu, also prior to 10th century CE. These tamil songs are not Namsagiirtanams or devarnamas, but elaborate musical pieces set to Pann (equivalent to Ragas, and Jaatis). --Aadal 15:15, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Offensive and Parochial
[edit]The comments made about Annamacharya kirtanas are highly offensive, uncivil and uncouth. Annamacharya kirtanas are the heart and soul of Carnatic music. Labelling them as mere singing of Kirtanas is higly objectionable. If Devaranamas and street singing also are categorized as Carnatic music the sanctity of classical music is lost. A perusal of Kannambadi's contributions reflect his parochial attitude and an element of linguistic fanaticism. It is unfortunate such persons gained prominence on wiki pages. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 59.165.151.178 (talk) 05:21, 4 April 2007 (UTC).

Alias Chaitanya?
[edit]In the infobox, I could see chaitanya as an alias to Saint Annamacharya. Such an account is not seen anywhere. Please add the appropriate reference, or that portion can be reverted. --Rahmanuddin Shaik (talk) 20:14, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- Removed it from infobox and added Annamayya as alias. --Rahmanuddin Shaik (talk) 05:13, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

Introduction
[edit]In the introductory paragraph, there is a sentence that states, “ He is one of the greatest musicians and song writers.” This is an entirely subjective statement and should be removed. 96.86.71.225 (talk) 20:21, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
