June 3, 2010 broadcast of DN! has an interview with Ann. http://www.democracynow.org/2010/6/huwaida which I've cited in the Peace activism section. I have replaced the remarks about passengers on the Marmara attacking the Israeli soldiers who rappelled onto the deck as well as a verifiably non-NPOV claim that IDF acted with justifiable use of force. I will provide the link to the Al Jazeera report that the IDF opened fire from the air, but not here. This article is about Ann. She most likely didn't see what was happening on Marmara after her own ship was boarded. The debate about justification of force belongs elsewhere.

This morning she said that Canada's Migra wants her to have a five year lapse in arrests, & fill-out an eighteen-page-application. Ouc!h!-Canada.

Not anti-war per se...
[edit]It's apparent to me that Ann Wright is not anti-war; she's against the Iraq War, which is a pretty big distinction. It would be incorrect to lump her in with, say, a of one of the historical peace churches, or a person who believes in absolute non-violence, who would take an unequivocal stance against all wars, including the war in Afghanistan (which she obviously approved of). Notability
[edit]So User:Bonewah has raised a question of notability and refutes my claim that Col. Ann Wright is notable in her stance as an anti-Iraq war activist http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Ann_Wright&diff=295231333&oldid=295229959 . I feel the sources and references are substantial if not good. She has been on talk shows and magazines covers. So I left the other improve tags and removed the question of notability tag which was reverted by Bonewah without explanation except to take it to the talk page here where I see still no argument against her notability. What is the question against her clear notability ? rkmlai (talk) 23:41, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- The fact that her notability is only supported by fringe citations and only passing mention in more mainstream ones. If she really has been covered in magazines and talk shows, then put them in the article, but, as it stands, she hasent been covered in a reliable source in any substantial way. Bonewah (talk) 13:30, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm the original author of this piece. Ann Wright's activities have been of prominence and have been documented by numerous sources of all kind, including by Democracy Now! and Fox News, with interviews available on democracynow.org and youtube. (This should fulfill previously noted need for "reliable" sources.) Her activities are central to high-profile protest cases, including close work with Cindy Sheehan's events. She is noteworthy for being one of three high profile members of the US State Department to resign in protest of the then-upcoming Iraq War, and is the only one of said three to speak out publicly about her resignation. Furthermore, since this article was started, she has become a published author. In general, she is a modern person of interest, and I do believe there is reason to retain this article. To this end, and noting that the discussion here is tending toward the subject being article-worthy, I am removing the tag at the top.WallyCuddeford (talk) 02:16, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
Photo
[edit]I'm re-uploading the previously posted photo of Ann Wright. The photo was a general and widely available publicity photo. It was provided by the subject Ms. Wright herself upon request by me specifically for use by Wikipedia. (It is also available for general promotional use). When prompted to legitimize the use of the photo (in a sense of the legality of using it), I forwarded the email from the subject confirming its release for use here. However, it (and its discussion page) have since been unceremoniously deleted, possibly on the presumption that a public request on my user:talk page was not followed up on (which it was). If this continues to be an issue, I can furnish the email again to any Wikipedia verification staff.WallyCuddeford (talk) 02:24, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
Proposed deletion
[edit]For some reason the article was proposed for deletion with the rationale that the subject is "non-notable." The subject passes WP:GNG as the subject of multiple news articles, some of which are behind paywalls. I'm trying to clean up the other references, too, since that may have played a part in the nominator's confusion about notability. I also suspect her military award is notable, but I'm not an expert on that. Please work to improve this article, assume good faith and avoid moving on to speedy deletion (ProD).
