Expert
[edit]Anind Dey is a professor at the world's premier institution for both human-computer interaction and computer science. He is also one of the foremost experts in context-aware computing. As such, he is obviously and clearly notable. Gillianrh (talk) 04:42, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- The article needs to be expanded to assert this and provide verifiable references. As it is, it does not demonstrate notability according to WP:PROF. Jfire (talk) 04:47, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
I would disagree that Carnegie Mellon is the world's premier institution for HCI. Conferences are often a barometer used to indicate leading schools in an area. Though some papers were accepted from the HCI institute at CMU, many more were accepted from rival institutions such as U. Washington and GaTech. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Curiusor (talk • contribs) 22:55, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Unknown which conferences Curiusor is referring to. The publishing average of the HCII at CMU is significantly higher than any other academic institution for many conferences in the field. For example, please see approximate publication totals for CHI, included below:
Number of Full Papers Published at CHI, 2003-2008
- Microsoft 80
- Carnegie Mellon 73
- IBM 43
- U. Washington 42
- Georgia Tech 38
- UC Berkeley 38
- MIT 31
- PARC 27
- Stanford 27
- U. Michigan 20
- U. Maryland. 17
- UC Irvine 14
- Sun 2
Number of Short Papers & Posters Published at CHI, 2003-2008

please check the context awareness article
[edit]There you will see that Anind Dey is listed as one of the pioneers and referenced repeatedly. Furthermore, this article is linked from that article. That should be enough to assert notability, although I (and others I am sure) will continue to add to this article. Could you give me some guidance on what else you might specifically like? Thanks! Gillianrh (talk) 05:13, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- It looks like you are on the right track with your expansions. WP:PROF goes into details about what notability means for academics. In this case, it would be helpful to know which of Dey's publications are especially significant and why, what his major contributions to the field of context-aware computing are (from context awareness it appears he may have defined context as a term of art in the field?), and if he has received any awards or honors. And of course, referencing published secondary sources is very important. Jfire (talk) 05:41, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- The edits by User:T0ddw0ng are exactly what is needed. Thanks! Jfire (talk) 05:50, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- Awesome, thanks much! I am still new and trying to sort all this out :) Gillianrh (talk) 05:52, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
