Attendance?

Question - the attendance number for 2006 was entered on the 25th of March... for a convention that didn't end until the 26th. Can we really trust that number? It just seems too fishy to me, to suddenly be just enough to match the criteria to be included in the List of anime conventions article. 137.28.246.163 02:44, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Wasn't it named after all the construction on I-494?

--I entered it based on the Chairman's speech at the opening ceremonies, when he said there about 2000 people. I'd always assumed it was named Anime Detour due to the lack of cons in Minnesota. Anyway, the proper edits were made. Gomen ne. ^_^;; Samurai Drifter

Total paid attendance was 2,542; warm body count (people who actually came & picked up badges) was 2,464. Both figures are from the count I was given by the Registration Chairwoman right before closing ceremonies on Sunday, and include everyone registered through the time the registration desk closed Saturday night. Those are the same numbers I got approximately, the day after the convention. Because they were loose numbers at the time - and so close to 2,500 - I just put up the approximation. If you think we should replace it with the 2,464 then go right ahead. Traegorn 15:19, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Why Sogen?

Just wondering, but why is Sogen Con's site linked from this article? I mean, I have nothing against Sogen, I go down there to help them out each year, but does it really have anything to do with Detour? --ACDragonMaster 03:34, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

History?

I've seen this "detailed history" and I have some issues with it. I'm not disputing the FACTS of this portion of the article at all - so don't get me wrong - but there are unsourced quotes in there, along with a writing style not necessarily appropriate to an Encyclopedia entry. Well, I just think we need to avoid self-referencing. When I rewrote the No Brand Con history - which ironically originally had text ripped from a press release that I had written myself... - I ended up removing quite a few personal references which *I* knew were true, but didn't fit into an encyclopedic style. The idea is to provide the information in a neutral tone - and no matter how cool it seems to you and me, we need to remember that Wikipedia is not here to be a promotional device, but instead a resource for research. I've heard rumors that the staff of SogenCon does not get along with the staff of Anime Detour. I also heard that one year at Detour, there was some serious cat-girl bashing that happened because SogenCon's mascot is a cat-girl. I went onto Wikipedia to find the answer to that question. I dont care about the registration numbers that everyone on here seems to want to piss fight over, I just am curious why the rest of this info was removed? if you just want to make the article a list of guests its a poor wiki since that info can be found on a dozen other sites on the web.

Not a billboard

This makes the second time I've removed a promotional link from the history section of the article and restored the cleanup tag in the last two days. Both times the link and the removal of the cleanup tag was done by someone using the username Anime detour (talk · contribs). Weather this is someone related to the convention or just a fan, I don't know. But I like to remind them about avoiding conflicts of interests along with Wikipedia's policies against self-promotion, which is what advocating readers to visit the convention's website for more information does. --Farix (Talk) 21:13, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

- The reason people are being referred to the website is because it is the best source for the convention history. This page is here for the express reason of giving the reader a quick and general look at what Anime Detour is. I have taken on the job of keeping the info up to date as best as possible, but if people want more details, they can look at the home page. Page Under Prolonged Construction

Since some people think there are problems with this wiki entry, this page will be under construction until further notice. This means some sections will come and go during the process. If a section vanishes, then there is a good reason, do not revert the edit if it is being worked on. The plan is to improve the flow and reduce "listing" in addition to adding a few images. undoing confirmed information.

it would be nice if people wouldn't undo additions that have been officially verified as true. even if it may be for a future event it still is true. Registration for this convention closed at 3000 today and that number will not change. if someone has a problem with it being a future event, then separate the 2008 portion from the PAST section. the info is valid and confirmed through an official source and won't be changing. There is no reliable third-party source so it is unverifiable at this point. The convention staff can't post information on Wikipedia that hasn't been published by a third-party source. Also, one can't predict the attendance figure of an event before the event is even held. Sorry, but if you have a publicly available website, then anyone on the web can link to it. That's the whole point of the web: it's a web of links. Additionally, Wikipedia has never claimed to be accurate all on its own. We require reliable, third-party sources for information, and this article only has primary sources. Addition to Minnestoa Portal

I added the article to the Minnesota portal, i'm sure due to population wise there's going to be debate about it - but it's important to the anime fans. Much like those that go to many other cons in minnesota, i felt it was important to be a part of minnesota events. Attendance data and animecons.com

The recent edit blanks out attendance numbers, directing people to verify the stats by posting them to animecons.com. I've never seen an edit that almost looks like an ad before. Blanking data and requesting a specific, pre-selected source is not how wiki is designed to work.

I'm reverting. The correct way to handle this is to ask for citations on any questionable data. This same edit was made, and reverted, months ago, and here it's back again. Please seek consensus before doing so again. Uberhill 02:20, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
