I have removed the '1979' reference here as Mr Bawden's statement of '1979' casting for the 1981 pilot 'The Vintage Years' does not tally with known facts. An interviewer is not the ultimate source of information, and often goes uncorrected by the interviewee, who may not remember the exact sequence of events, or is simply too polite to correct what they may regard as an unimportant error. The 'Vintage Years' was filmed in the spring of 1981, and seems to have been in the planning stages for around a year at the time. We need more clarification of the removed assertion from more involved sources before making it 'hard fact'. There is also Earl Hamner's denial that he cast Ms Wyman as Angela Channing because her ex-husband had just been elected American President. Ronald Reagan was elected in November 1980. Mr Hamner never stated that he cast Ms Wyman before this election. Please see link, which contains information on The Vintage Years and screen caps:
