Independent implementations

[edit]

Android Auto as such is a mobile application by Google. But it is worth mentioning that it uses a proprietary protocol based on AOA (https://source.android.com/devices/accessories/protocol), SSL and Protobuf for communication with the headunit. And that there are independent implementations of the protocol (https://github.com/f1xpl/openauto, https://github.com/tomasz-grobelny/AACS) of varied maturity. Would adding that information make sense? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Grobelny (talkcontribs) 12:46, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

.While I think it's valid information, maybe it's too technical, too niche for the article. --uKER (talk) 13:58, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Countries

[edit]

Should probably add that it is only available in very few countries Link JMRD (talk) 17:02, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your link leads to a generic Q&A page. Regardless, Android auto doesn't have any country restrictions. --uKER (talk) 17:56, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The first paragraph states that it is available in 28 countries. Later, a section containing only one sentence says that it's 36 countries. 142.232.88.132 (talk) 17:23, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Should the kernel be assumed to be Linux (or maybe ONX)? Best first guess..

[edit]

In my previous edit at QNX I assumed Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to neither use QNX. A dangerous assumption as CarPlay does use QNX.. (not iOS' kernel. Do not want to make same mistake here, but as Linux kernel could (is?) good enough (not sure hard-real-time is needed and well Linux could be..). There are some sites that say QNX, I'm not sure if reliable (not official) but rather speculation as BlackBerry has Android compatibility.

Kernel to what? Android Auto is not an operating system. It's just the head unit sending input to and receiving video from an app running on an Android device. --uKER (talk) 17:55, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

List of Manufacturers and Models that support Android Auto

[edit]

I think it would be a good to have a list manufacturers and models (and adoption dates) that currently support Android Auto instead of a questionable list of manufacturers that say they will support it. --HSukePup (talk) 01:31, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism section incomplete

[edit]

Emerging evidence of the safety of infotainment systems in driving shows that any level of distracted driving increases the possiblity of accidents. https://www.iamroadsmart.com/campaign-pages/end-customer-campaigns/infotainment Whereas voice control is safer than touchscreen, no in car infotainment systems directed at drivers is safer than not having one at all. This is clearly the most important criticism of Android Auto and this article is incomplete at best, commercial propaganda at worst without a proper discussion of road safety and distracted driving. 37.152.237.108 (talk) 16:04, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like content best served for the infotainment article then, since I don't see what is Android Auto specific. Y2Kcrazyjoker4 (talkcontributions) 17:38, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
