"How I Snuck Through Wikipedia’s Notability Test I’m not famous. But judging by my expansive Wikipedia entry, I’m a star!" by Andrew McMillen Ocaasi t | c 16:21, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"In 2012, McMillen participated in the "World's Greatest Shave" event for the Leukemia Foundation of Australia." - Notability?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnwarwick2015 (talkcontribs)
I find it pretty offensive that an admin apparently created this article just to see if other editors would nominate it for deletion. I'd like comment from User:JHunterJ. --Cgt (talk) 18:21, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't do it to offend you, and I didn't do it just to see if other editors would nominate it for deletion. While talking with him, I did my own research, and found that he would be on what I would consider edge of notability. I wasn't sure which edge, and I told him so directly. I then created it because that's what I do: edit Wikipedia. No need to take offense. -- JHunterJ (talk) 19:32, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for explaining your reason for creating the article. My interpretation of your intention based on the article was inaccurate, and it was misguided for me to attempt to do so. I realize now that I phrased my comment too aggressively; it was not my intention to disparage you. I'm sorry. --Cgt (talk) 19:44, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think it was quite a useful exercise in a sense. -- TOW  19:50, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also inclined to let this wikipedia page live with his notability principle being that of doting the notability principle, although heavily revised to meet citation and proof requirements. Cyanhat (talk) 22:46, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Would it be considered too meta to mention this in the article? This alone is a notable event. 96.28.166.22 (talk) 00:20, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is surprising that someone would laugh at the wikipedia notability test and even go ahead to look down upon the wikipedia editors on wired.com but still have their page up and running 7 years down the line. James Belva (talk) 08:27, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is too trivial for a Start-class article. If this article was moving from Good to Featured status, it might be decent background color. — Lentower (talk)

What Notability is on Wikipedia

[edit]

Notability on Wikipedia is just about adequate reliable reputable sources. See WP:N & WP:RS. — Lentower (talk) 00:00, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of proof

[edit]

This article lacks proof that this person has articles in many of the claimed publications. Link directly to EXACT articles in the publications, like Rolling Stone or Penthouse, or I don't consider it to be true! • SbmeirowTalk18:49, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Articles needn't exist online to be citable. -- JHunterJ (talk) 19:32, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I was talking about the generic publisher claims at the top of the article. This article didn't provide the exact article names or publish dates in Rolling Stone / Penthouse / Buzzfeed. Maybe it's true, maybe it's not true, still nothing listed as proof other than a publisher name. • SbmeirowTalk20:31, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Even off-line articles can & should be {{cite}}-ed — Lentower (talk) 00:03, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Another author from Brisbane has similar name

[edit]

Note, there is another author (now dead), that has a similar name, see Andrew McMillan (writer). • SbmeirowTalk20:48, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Actually the other author was from Darwin; see Andrew McMillan (writer). 84.93.79.220 (talk) 21:51, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
"was educated in Brisbane, Queensland. McMillan moved to the Darwin" • SbmeirowTalk22:12, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
