What should we do about the history of locations
[edit]Hi Nomoskedasticity, I wonder if a place that is today in Israel should be characterized according to its "affiliation" at the time of birth of Goldblum. Imagine someone who was born in Warsaw, Vienna or Prague between 1939 and 1945, should it be marked as "XXXXXX under German Nazi rule" ?. Or would someone who was born in Virginia between 1861-1863 be presented as "born in Alexandria, Virginia, the Confederacy" ?. Rosh Pina has been under Ottoman rule 1882-1917, British Mandate 1917-1948, and 65 years in Israel...So although your edit is historically correct, I wonder what should be the general way to deal with such issues. I would feel different if that addition characterized the city/village at that time (say, if British Mandate officers used it as their main headquarters or homes in the upper Galilee). I'll be glad to learn from you, thanks !רסטיניאק (talk) 23:31, 19 August 2013 (UTC)רסטיניאק
- I think it's best to be strict about matters of this sort. If we can reconstruct Rosh Pina as part of Israel in 1945, then others will want to reconstruct Ariel as part of Israel in 2013. Nomoskedasticity (talk) 12:23, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Nomo ! The Ariel example convinced me !רסטיניאק (talk) 21:24, 21 August 2013 (UTC)רסטיניאק

New Israel Fund Totally Denies the report of Makor Rishon
[edit]Hi Gilabrand, Your edit missed the following which is part of ref. 33: In reaction to the title given by Makor Rishon and its correspondent Yishai Friedman, the New Israel Fund's (NIF) CEO issued a total denial which is on the same journal's page as follows : "Reaction by the New Israel Fund: Contrary to what is said in this report, NIF did not take any steps against Prof. Goldblum, Goldblum was not rejected from the International Council, NIF did not dissociate itself from him and did not request to do so. As Goldblum said, he requested to leave on his own will. Prof. Goldblum is a person of countless virtues who devoted all his life to voluntary activism for the sake of Peace and Equality, for the sake of the State of Israel, The Israeli Society and for the New Israel Fund and we thank him for that".
Goldblum is also cited on that page saying: " I left of my own will, not because I was asked or requested to do so and not because of any decision, as such decision does not exist in the New Israel Fund. I do not wish to impose on NIF and on the council, which anyway lacks public importance. Other than being supporters of NIF, that body has no role, and I am a bit more active than all the members of the council which is why I decided to leave. I have nothing against NIF, I will continue supporting NIF and NGOs which NIF supports, in particular Breaking the Silence, Betselem and Yesh Din. I shall also help finance NIF. I left in order to be free and independent, in order not to attribute to NIF anything that I say which is different than what NIF says"רסטיניאק (talk) 04:18, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
- רסטיניאק, welcome back! As I read the sources you added, I agree that the correction you made is better abd more neutral description of the case. Thank you! Ovedc (talk) 07:46, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
