Hi @Darkwarriorblake, I expanded the Legacy section to include how even the film is seen as an influential comedy, it does have a rather complicated legacy. I have some other suggestions for how to give the article more of a neutral point of view. In the introduction, it is stated "Retrospective critical analysis has placed American Pie among the greatest teen films of all time", with the referenced sources. However, the sources are listicle-type articles from MSN and Rotten Tomatoes. My suggestion is to replace the sentence with something more accurate like, "The film is credited with reviving the teen sex comedy genre for the late 1990s and 2000s."
In the Legacy section, you mention that the film heavily boosted the careers of its ensemble members. I understand Biggs, Scott, Klein, etc. had a moment there for the early 2000s, but it's common for actors who were in a hit movie to suddenly get cast in everything. It's not on the par of say, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, in terms of cast notability. I suggest instead writing, "The film provided breakthrough roles for Biggs, Scott, etc." The naming of their subsequent films is not necessary.
Hi Spectrallights, I haven't worked on the lead or legacy sections yet so I can't comment on the content therein, but I do know from the sources I've been gathering my sandbox that it is considered a breakout role for a lot of the cast rather than just one or two people, and it's still the film/series they're mainly known for so it is worth mentioning as it's the reason most people will know about them. I will get to rewriting it and add better sources, but I'm mainly doing this as a side project. Same with the lead section, I'm not responsible for any of that content so I haven't paid much attention to it yet. The soundtrack section was added by a different user as is largely unsourced, I am trying to find out if it could be split off into it's own article as while the soudntrack listing would be fine there, it's not really meant to be in this article, plus as mentioned it's mostly unsourced. Thanks for your help.
Ok, my mistake. So you don’t mind if I edit the introductory line about “retrospective critical analysis” myself? I don’t think I’m in disagreement with you that the film provided breakout roles, just that listing their subsequent films like Boys and Girls and Loser (which by the way were not box office successes so they don’t really need to be mentioned), Road Trip, etc. appears unnecessary when readers who are curious about the actors’ careers post-American Pie can simply go to the actors’ own Wikipedia pages. You are right, if you look at the source for William Scott it doesn't even back up anything in the sentence it's sourcing about his breakout roles. If you leave that to me though, I've got some good sources together already that cover the entire cast so I'll sort that part out. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 08:25, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
