Why isn't their 1995 Horse With No Name album listed here? http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Horse_with_No_Name_%28album%29 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.173.212.21 (talk) 07:34, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Revert War over "Horse With No Name" b-side.

[edit]

I have no intentiuon of indulging in a revert war with an unverified user who is providing no sourcing.

Dear Mr. 77.234.44.184: Do not revert without verifiable sourcing. See https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Verifiability

Your recollection of a record you had 40 years ago is not a credible source.

And you're factually incorrect. (See http://www.discogs.com/America-A-Horse-With-No-Name/release/1474176).

If you revert again I will refer the matter to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.

  • I came across this discussion from the administrators noticeboard and I think this is a legitimate dispute that might benefit from a third opinion more than any sort of technical administrative intervention. According to the website, the single was originally released in multiple different variations. In essence, you're both wrong and either could have easily figured this out. For your consideration: "Everyone I Meet" is the b-side on North American, European and Japanese releases. "Sandman" is the b-side on Australian and European releases. And on the UK version, "Sandman" was the b-side whereas "Everyone I Meet" was the second track on the a-side. As far as I know, there's no definitive style guideline for discographies so there's no clear-cut "right" version, but as both versions were widely released, and your concern has been addressed, I see nothing wrong with mentioning both b-sides in the disputed section, but I will be correcting the countries which, according to the source, are reversed. First, you're neglecting the fact that even under your analysis, this unregistered user is giving incorrect information --he has the US and UK releases exactly backward. I tried multiple times to correct it and was reverted each time. He also provided no support, beyond an assertion that he "had the US 45."

The worst thing you can say about my edit is that it was incomplete --i.e., I didn't attempt to include a complete accounting of all international releases of this title. Which is a little puzzling given that none of the other titles include this information, and in fact it's rare for any Wikipedia discography to include it. Every other listing in this section includes only the normal, "stock" US single. My edit brought this entry into conformity with the others in this section.

I look forward to your and this user's further work in adding complete info on all international releases, including the promotional and other minor releases you cite above, to this page. Failure to do so, in your words, would be retaining "wrong" information.

In any event I've already wasted too much time on something that's not very important to me, beyond a desire to improve Wikipedia in whatever small ways that I'm able. I'm not a regular contributor, but have always tried to make minor corrections when I've come across inaccurate information. I'm also not a lawyer, and now that I've become aware that Wikipedia's byzantine processes indulge unsupported and erroneous edits by unregistered users and inhibit correct, good faith ones, I'll be more circumspect in taking on the aggravation. • I'm not lambasting you nor am I defending the unregistered user. Ultimately we need to simply focus on content and nothing more, and that's all I was trying to do. Wikipedia needs all the help it can get and I appreciate you wanting to take part in the project and hope you will continue to do so. Yes disputes arise sometimes, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's perfectly normal and you shouldn't be deterred by them. You weren't wrong in reporting this edit war to the noticeboard, I just thought resolving the actual content dispute would be better than blocking a user who, while mistaken, was trying to edit in good faith! Cast The Spirit chart position

[edit]

The single "Cast the Spirit" failed to chart on any of the three major US singles charts published at the time, Billboard, Cash Box, and Radio & Records. It has been erroneously listed as charting at 185 on the America Fans web page and this has been picked up by some other web pages. In fact none of the major singles charts published at the time went as high as 185. The source of the error may be the America album, Perspective which was released after Cast the Spirit did chart at 185 on the Billboard album chart. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.174.113.253 (talk) 22:08, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
