Talk:Amazon (chess)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page was moved to Amazon (fairy chess piece) at one point. I was unaware of this merge move as I was working on an expansion of the article here, and therefore inadvertently recreated the page here. As a result we now have the problem of parallel histories. Inverted queen

[edit]

I suggest the amazon being represented by inverted queen. Ambiguity with grasshopper is ok, because similar ambiguity was done for nightrider, camel and zebra. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PiotrGrochowski000 (talkcontribs) 08:27, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Amazon vs empress endgame

[edit]

I made a mistake in the original version of this article; the draw is only sometimes forceable. My thanks to this Chess Stack Exchange answer for demonstrating that this is so! Double sharp (talk) 04:27, 3 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative to what?

[edit]

The caption of the very first illustration offered says "An alternative icon for the amazon used in diagrams." Since no other icon has bent presented at that point, I'm left scratching my head as to what this is an "alternative" for. Shouldn't the more standard icon be presented first, and then the alternative(s)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.89.176.249 (talk) 21:26, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Since combined icons for the BN, RN, and QN compounds are standard enough to be in Unicode, I've switched to the QN combined icon everywhere. It is worth noting that the combined icons are mostly in use among chess-variant players; problemists tend to prefer rotated symbols. Double sharp (talk) 04:02, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
