questions

[edit]

I'm not sure that the company first performed with only black dancers? I realize the Ailey site says that, but I have some doubts. I don't have access to my books right now.

Perhaps say the company "now" has "about" 30 dancers, since the phrase follows immediately after the 1958 date?

Otherwise, Wikipedia shouldn't really be in the business of copying the official web site's information.

who runs the company now? or did i just miss where it said that.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.69.194.127 (talk) 17:39, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

re:30 dancers vs. 1958. If you pay attention to the tense of the sentences, it should be clear. Intro paragraphs often have disparate information to give the reader a broad understanding of the article. Dkreisst (talk) 10:10, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

alvin ailey jazz company does not use jaz music —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.178.123.8271.178.123.82 (talk) 20:38, 16 May 2008 (UTC).[reply]

note

[edit]

These two sentences are confusing:

"Many arts organizations have experienced stresses upon the death of their founding artistic director. Many others have also contributed to the success of AAADT, but the work of Michael Kaiser, the Executive Director from 1990 to 1993, is often cited [1] [2] [3] as a model of successful nonprofit performing arts management."

The reason is that by staring with "Many arts ..." and then having the next sentence be "Many others", we immediate expect a parallel construction and think that this means "Many other arts organization", when in reality the subject has shifted to "many other people". I will make that change.
