No Navajos, no trails
[edit]It is remarkable that this film's title has nothing whatsoever to do with its content. The film is about Roy Rogers and an band of roving Gypsies saving Dale Evans' ranch from scheming oilmen. The song is present during the titles at the start, and for a few seconds at the end. The novel on which the film is based seems to be "Sleepy Horse Range", but I couldn't find any reliable confirmation of that; its name isn't mentioned in the credits.
Both the song and the film were released in 1945. I speculate that there was some sort of joint promotional effort involved. The song has become a western classic, so maybe it was popular in 1945 and the movie was titled to ride on its coattails. That's just my speculation, of course, and I'm hoping that somebody can find a reliable source for information about the film. Lou Sander (talk) 16:17, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
Good Reference
[edit]Here's a goldmine of information about the film and the songs in it: http://bobnolan-sop.net/Special%20Features/Movie%20of%20the%20Month/Along%20the%20Navajo%20Trail%20(1945%2012%2015)/Navajo%20Trail.htm
I'll try to get some of it into the article. Lou Sander (talk) 03:18, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
- That reference lists the following songs as being present in the movie. I've looked at the movie a few times, and the only ones I can identify as being in there are marked with an "OK". The others are marked with "???":
- Free as the Wind (Jack Elliott) OK
- It’s the Gypsy in Me (Jack Elliott) OK
- Saskatoon (Jack Elliott) OK (only a few words of it)
- Savin’ For a Rainy Day (Jack Elliott) OK
- Cool Water (Bob Nolan) ???
- Habanera ???
- Along the Navajo Trail (Larry Markes, Dick Charles, Eddie DeLang) OK
- How’re You Doin' in the Heart Department? (Charles Newman, Arthur Altman) ???
- Twenty-one Years is a Mighty Long Time (Gordon Forster) ???
- Finale – Savin’ For a Rainy Day / Free as the Wind / Along the Navajo Trail OK
- I've only listened to the words of the songs, so I'm guessing just a little about the titles. Lou Sander (talk) 15:16, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
