Hello, fat chode
I see the motive behind merging this article with Alligators, but I will try to justify Alligator Hunting as an independent article. If I have misread the justification behind this proposal, then please correct me. Let us begin with this:
The current redirect for Alligator Hunting is unhelpful. Currently, Wikipedia readers are redirected to a subsection of Bag limits. Any reader looking to find information on alligator hunting will find only tangential information here.
Alligator hunting is not covered directly on Wikipedia. The page for Alligator is mostly ecological, it's internal table of contents reflects this:
- Species (extant)
- Description
- Habitat
- Behavior
- Diet
- Reproduction
- Anatomy
- Human uses
It is true, there is a 'Human uses' section, but this paragraph seems awkwardly out of place in the larger context. Though 'Alligator Hunting' could be appended to this section, I think it best to follow the examples of similarly related subjects. Above the 'Human uses' section are references to the 'Main Articles' of Alligator farming and Alligator meat. If the farming justifies a separate article, then shouldn't also the hunting? There is just as much to write of Alligator hunting as there is of Alligator farming as demonstrated by the information provided by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries alone.[1][2]
Articles on killing and capturing specific species already exist. A quick exploration of related articles finds Tiger hunting, Lion hunting, Elephant hunting in Chad, Elephant hunting in Kenya, Deer hunting, Boar hunting, Whaling, etc. In most of these cases the game presents a unique challenge to the hunter (deer being the exception due to their comonality). Alligator hunting too present a unique challenge (and interesting article) as its history, legality, and methodology is notably different from common game.
Thanks

Person above: I think your points are valid, and since there has been no further discussion for a year I decided to get rid of the merge proposal tag. I came to Wikipedia while watching "Swamp People" on the History channel and was looking specifically for information on Alligator hunting (not general information on Alligators). Thanks.
