[edit]To the author of this article on Alan KARDEC
- Sir,
- You may add that Alan KARDEC collaborated with David LEVI ALVARES (1794-1870) who founded the "Cours d'Education Maternelle" in 1821 in Paris. Together (Kardec under his real name: RIVAIL) they published, in 1849: "Grammaire normale des examens".

- This is very interesting. We should gather information about him as an educator to enrich the article. jes 19:21, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I'm sure this guy is incredible, really, but surely at some time his work has faced criticism of some sort. Is there really nothing out there? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 58.169.2.55 (talk • contribs) 08:57, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
- Fortunately for him Spiritism was quite fashionable in his time, so he attracted lots of support. Once again fortunately for him, Spiritism is nowadays quite irrelevant, even in Brazil, so few people bother to attack him. Nevertheless he seems to have been a good person, though somewhat gullible and with a tendency to "regulate" things. And once again fortunately for him, most of what we know of him was written by his friends or followers. But is this a real issue? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 201.59.1.129 (talk • contribs) 14:09, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Actually, main books cite a broad range of criticism. The Spirits' Book and The Book on Mediums have far than enough material to fill this page with more criticism than anything else. Unfortunately, this is cannot be used... So... Yes, there is criticism. Allan Kardek was more aware of it at the time than I am today. :-) • Ekevu • ♥ • ★ 13:10, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- He not faced criticism cause his theories was never widespread, except in Brazil. When arrived in Brazil and become popular, he faced criticism from Machado de Assis and later by other writers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.79.78.141 (talk) 15:38, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Even though all about him has been written by followers, maybe the fact that what's agains him is hard to be found is due to the quality of his ideas. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 200.99.204.194 (talk • contribs) 16:40, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- Another point is that Kardec was, from what his biographies say, one of the most boring persons ever to live: he lived his entire life in France (Paris, to be more precise, except for some time in Genéva), he was a schoolteacher (a boring person's job in his time) and did not have any interesting adventures in his life. ERgo, he may have written excellent books, but as he did little otherwise, it is hard to find anything in him to criticise. No, he was not a pedophile, had no criminal prosecution, etc. Plain right bureaucratic-style middle-class person. And oh, yes, forgot to say. Nice people exist. 201.59.1.129 02:33, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- "One of the most boring persons ever to live"?! Oh, come on... Kardec was definitely not this kind of person! He neither spent all his life in Paris, nor in France, since he studied for at least 6 or 7 years at Pestalozzi's Yverdun Institute, in Swiss. Moreover, he travelled throughout almost the whole French territory spreading the spiritist principles, and, we can't forget it, kept in touch with hundreds of spirits groups from at least 35 different countries in four continents. Besides, Kardec was not a "boring schoolteacher", but a progressist educator, who applied the Pestalozzian method to change the boreness and the inaccuracy of the traditional teaching methods. Taught chemistry, physics, math, astronomy, compared anatomy, grammar and wrote not only didatic books, but mainly pedagogic ones. He was not that kind of polemic and combative personality in those times, but had strong scientificist, humanist and anticlerical inclinations. Arges 13:26, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Neutrality of the article is positively affirmed, POV question was reverted. The article is factual and supported by references that are easily verifiable. The criticism in this page seems to be of the kind that is usually found in pages related to religion and spiritualism. The criticism we can read here is generic, unsubstantiated and without identity -- and where all remarks could even be from the same person. The lack of login for the remarks further prevents any questioning of same. Edgerck 23:07, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, please. "He will be a strong protector, an extra light, a tireless worker that the phalanges of Space have incorporated." (...) "He was the guide and the secure port for everyone.". This is not only POV, but also Story. Can some non-Kardec-worshipping person rewrite the whole article? 86.87.47.254 (talk) 09:29, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
- NPOV Really*** I was born and raised as protestant with the full extent of the Christian doctrine(Assembly of God church, and yes, in Brazil). Well, if you want criticism about Kardec/Rivail and the beliefs he inspired with his research about the "Spiritism" phenomenon, you should talk to a Christian-Brazilian. In Brazil; where I believe the Spiritism movement has the largest number of followers, is actually even feared by the protestants. Reason being: ignorance about the subject. I speak from first hand experience which is the only way I believe you can have an objective and educated opinion. With that said, I would like to say that Spirituality is a passion of mine. I read, research and even experience in occasions before I can form an opinion about a given religion/belief. By my early 20's, my universally recognized-traditional religion had failed in answering many of my questions and most importantly, it failed to fulfill me spiritually. That's when I came across Spiritism and ironically, not in my country but in the United States where I have lived for over 17 years. Before I make my real "Neutral Point of View", I would like to clarify that Kardec did not change my previous beliefs but actually reinforced them by helping me make sense of a lot of unanswered questions I've had since my childhood (I would have to write a whole article to address them all), and this is what made me become an "objective" not a "KARDEC'S FOLLOWER" but a "SPIRIST BELIEVER". I would like to also clarify that one of the main attractiveness of Spiritism for me it's how Spiritism clarify the importance/need of every belief system which, consequently; teaches you how to respect them while embracing your own. I do have however, personal criticism (sorry, I'm not that evolved) towards some religious' followers including my own Spiritists fellows who seem to forget that our faith/belief/worship must be about the message being delivered by God using the messengers available to him (Moses, Christ, Mohamed, Buddah, Dalai Lama, Sun God, The Goddess, Kardec, your neighbor, etc.), and not about the messenger. We must follow the message. In the case of the message delivered by Kardec, is of respect, understanding, self improvement, compassion and continuos spiritual growth. How much can you criticize that? ***Now, as for the question related to records written on Kardec being from his friends and followers and I'm pretty sure I am going to hit a nerve with this one but what can we say about Jesus Christ? If we have the guts to be objective and confront the truth - Shouldn't we say we instead of believing in Jesus Christ we actually believe in the Apostles and whatever written records the "The Church" allowed to survive during the inquisition? As the public is concerned, there are no written books by Jesus Christ... Even the compiling of the Bible itself was coldly calculated to fit with political economic agendas...How is that for being gullible? And before this page gets full with criticism towards my "NPOV", let me clarify that after reading and researching about numerous religions, I couldn't care less about so many eye opening and even controversial books written about Christianity. I couldn't care less if Jesus was married, had children, was the "only" son of God, if he resurrected or not, but what really strikes me and makes a difference in my life is God's message delivered through him and others. And no, I AM NOT comparing Kardec to Jesus because honestly, I do not know much about Jesus' personal life. And I do not belief that Jesus is the ONLY way to get to God either, but that's another POV. "GOD is a destination in the map and there are many different roads to get to him"gos'Italic textBalance1970 (talk) 23:35, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Balance1970Balance1970 (talk) 23:35, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
To Know more about spiritism.
[edit]Who was Leon Denis, the friend of Allan Kardec and also borned in the ame country? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.62.159.40 (talk) 03:11, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Leon Denis born in france and Pietro Ubaldi born in Italie ,Bezerra de Menezes born at almost the same time in Brazi, what can you to say about?
[edit]There are many books writed about spiritism for Deni, Ubaldi, Bezerra, Francisco Xaver, Divaldo Franco and other that , in Brazil, especialy are sellede milions of that books. I do not why but, the americans prefer the spirtism of the induism. We dedicated to spritism of Kardec, have the most respect for all religions. It is sure that , for us, we are next the true more than the others. Sorry, but the humanity is so. Al think that are owner of the true. I am spiritist because phenomenas that i lived in very tragicmoments. Before that, i do not believe in nothing. Only in the nature. I was more for "Species evollution" of Darwin than others. Now, i belive in a supreme spirit that can called of God, Buda, Siva, Aláor othes names, until the cience can prouve the contrary. How i have seventy years old, maibe never I apollogize if my english was bad. I learned for myself ,like a poor brazlian one, what i think to know. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.62.159.40 (talk) 03:40, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
- Why so many at the same time? Simple: there was a supernatural fad at the time, and those people decided to make some money from superstitious fools. Let me say it in Portuguese, since your English is so poor: o sobrenatural estava na moda e esses caras aproveitaram para arrancar uma grana dos trouxas supersticiosos. --Stormwatch (talk) 07:50, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Sources
[edit]Can we have some better sourcing for this article? Much of it is totally unsourced (and may thus be removed at any time). Of the few sources that are present, most are Spiritist sources, which are fine for what Spiritists believe, but probably do not present a balanced view for other information about Kardec.--Jeffro77 (talk) 03:03, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
I agree. It needs citations. Due to the nature of the topic, some inherent bias is to be expected (spiritist vs. skeptic), but all information should be clearly referenced to its point of origin so it can be crosschecked. Genetikbliss (talk) 19:52, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
