Few issues

[edit]

I have a few concerns about this article as it stands. i actually was thinking about creatign this article because I think it is certainyl a good idea. But here are the issues I have with it right now:

  • You are using the copyrighted coverart from the AHIG album which may only be used in the AHIG article per fair-use. You will need to find a poster for the "All Hope Is Gone tour".
  • You haven't cited one source, and right now it fails WP:SD.
  • I don't believe the Mayhem Festival was part of this tour. The tour will begin in Japan, the Mayhem Festival was just that... the Mayhem Festival not Slipknot's AHIG tour.
  • You've listed the Vol.3 toru as 2005-06. It was 2004-05.

I believe there maybe should be some prose explaining Joey's injury which forced them to cancel their appearances at the Europpean Festivals prior to this tour. REZTER TALK ø 12:49, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How about a different article altogether for the Mayhem Tour? Not sure if there would be enough to add but I have the setlist for one of the shows (can't remember which, but I'll look at some stage). I found a review for a one of the Mayhem concerts a while back. And we have plenty of Plenty of pictures from it (every band members page, the AHIG page, the Slipknot main page). We have enough to go on for an article. And, as you said, the Mayhem Festival wasn't part of this tour, it was more a pre-album promotion (as it is listed as on the AHIG page)

I've never made an article so I wouldn't know about making one, but, if it's notable enough, does anyone want to help me make one?Xanthic-Ztk (talk) 04:10, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I retracted this comment about the Mayhem Festival because it was decided that this article will feature all dates which are performed in support of the AHIG album (including any festivals, different tours [which aren't called AHIG tour, for example.. the Mayhem festival]). Please see below at my comments in #edits. REZTER TALK ø 12:37, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tour Poster

[edit]

is this image acceptable as the poster? it is the poster for the AHIG tour in Israel. If it is, then can anyone upload it as my account is not autoconfirmed.

[1] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Torque3000 (talkcontribs) 12:32, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it could be argued as fair use, but I think pictures of the band will become avalible and in the spirit of creating a "free encyclopedia" the latter would probably be the better route. Blackngold29 13:53, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I actually think that's quite a good image to use and I'm pretty sure there is a fair use policy for posters. It's kind of a significant poster for the tour, considering it's the first time ever they will be performing in Israel. REZTER TALK ø 14:25, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I didn't know it would be their first time. I guess that adds some importance to it. Blackngold29 14:37, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

edits

[edit]

someone has readded the mayhem festival as part of the all hop is gone tour, it is mayhem festival, not all hope is gone

have also removed sydonia from australias supporting act, even though i provided a source further proof that they are is provided on the bands myspace page —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.206.46.19 (talk) 15:18, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah all of those edits were by me. Me and Blackngold came to a consensus that this article should include all touring dates, festival appearances and everything that is in support of All Hope Is Gone and that includes Mayhem Festival because I believe the Mayhem Festival article will change each year and less focus will be made about each individual year. I removed your "source" for Sydonia because it only confirmed one date (granted it had links to other pages that confirmed each singular date but you can't have like 6 references just for the band), also I'm not sure how reliable that site is. Granted you may have been to one of those shows and know for a certain fact that Sydonia did in fact play but we need a RELIABLE source. I'll be happy to add the information if you can find a better source. REZTER TALK ø 15:24, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
the only other source i can find is the bansd sydonia's myspace page(calendar) , but that page will only be existant for the next week. will that be enough for now until other sources get published after teh gigs? 124.169.89.121 (talk) 00:01, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New Poster

[edit]

I was just thinking whether the new poster of all hope is gone tour can be used and maybe we can move the other poster down to the european leg section.

the link to the new poster- [2]

Torque3000 (talk) 17:18, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We can only use one per fair use, which poster we use is nothing more than personal preference, its not worth switching in my opinion. REZTER TALK ø 18:45, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After thinking about this, I'm wondering whether we should use the poster for Israel since they actually had to cancel that date. What are peoples opinions? Should we change it or do you think it's ok? I mean is there a consensus on things like this? REZTER TALK ø 14:02, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well now there are even more posters out there and we can use any one of them. I say we shift the Israel one to the european leg section and put up one of the new posters on the top. Then again, thats just my view. Lets see what others have to say.Torque3000|talk| 19:03, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Per fair-use we may only use one poster in the article, hell with all the free images we have on Wiki-commons I don't know if we even need to use a fair-use image in this article. I mean, do we really need a poster for the info box or could we just use a photo of the band perfmorning? REZTER TALK ø 02:55, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus

[edit]

OK well I'd like to establish some kind of consensus here. As there isn't really an established consensus on articles like this, I would like to open the discussion on this. What kind of image should we use in the infobox? A promotional poster from the tour which would be a copyrighted image with a fair-use rational, or a free image we have here? Ultimately Wikipedia is aimed at being a free encyclopedia and purests believe that fair-use images should be avoided. The question is.... does a promotional poster really add that much more significance to the article, or would a photo like this image suffice? REZTER TALK ø 09:04, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I think that if we can use a free image then we probably should. With as many free pictures in the article as there already are it would probably be best to go that route, fair use is only to be used if there are no free ones avalible, which there obviously are. I'm sure we'll get a few more candidates on the next leg of the tour, but I'll leave it up to you Rezter, as you have done one hell of a job with this article. blackngold29 14:39, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Why not use a low-resolution fair use image for All Hope Is Gone Tour just for that specific article? Not everything in wikipedia has to be a free image. —Terrence and Phillip 15:39, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand what you're saying... do you think there are two separate articles? This discussion is whether or not we should continue to use that image, which is copyrighted or switch to using a free image. I know not everything needs to be free on WIkipedia, but like I said purists would rather that you avoided using free-use images unless they are completely necessary. Does a promotional poster really add that much to this article or would a photo of the band performing on the tour be fine? It's not like an album cover were that is the primary identification of the article, it's of a less importance and the question is just purely... is it worth using a fair-use image of a promotional poster or should we just use a free photograph. REZTER TALK ø 15:49, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Plane with banner image

[edit]

I was just thinking whether we should use the image as I feel that its mention in the article is enough and it is not really necessary to show it. Torque3000|talk| 19:15, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I dunno I think it's a cool addition. I think that it's a visual reference to back up the event. Wikipedia is meant to be impartial and just because this was a bad move for the band (or whoever organized it) then I don't think it should be removed. I know you didn't state that as your reason, but I'm jsut saying. REZTER TALK ø 02:48, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I like it. It's a unique picture, unlike what any other tour will have in its article. blackngold29 16:02, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alright.Im fine with it, just wanted a consensus.Torque3000|talk| 20:12, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
  • Fantastic images, all good to go with proper licensing.
  • Some problems with simple grammar, simply fixed, such as "were noted upon as a particular highlight by Greg Cochrane of the BBC" and the indecision about which spelling to use on "canceled", US or British.
  • Big problems with references, with this tool saying roadrunnerrecords.com (a lot of links) and sonispherefestival.net are not allowing readers to check the sources. A URL at gazetteonline.com has been dead for a month.
  • This readability checker says the article is just about off the charts in terms of long sentences.
  • Major gaps in tour coverage, with no mention of people like lighting guy Philippe Vachon, main sound mix guy David "Shirt" Nicholls, monitor mix guy Ron Hurd, drum tech Sol Engelhardt. No mention of how the drums are miked, or how drum samples are triggered from an Akai Z4 sampler linked to Alesis DM5 pickups on the drums. No discussion of the design or setup of the drum riser. No mention of sound system details, with loudspeakers by Meyer Sound Laboratories. Nothing about the Audio-Technica AE5400 vocal microphones and the strain they bear. No mention of the band using in-ear monitors or how they like them. No mention of them smashing gear or how the crew deals with this. Nothing about the Digidesign Profile digital mixing console. No discussion of video elements, or where cameras were placed, such as on the drum riser. The pyro company on the last tour was Strictly FX, but I don't know who it was for All Hope Is Gone. Something should be in the article about the pyro design and provider.
  • Check out these links to fill in missing gaps in the article:

Overall result: Not passed. The article needs much more material on the sound system, lighting rig, staging elements, etc. The huge problem with roadrunnerrecords links must be fixed. Binksternet (talk) 22:27, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
