Wife?
[edit]According to the wiki page for Robert Toombs, he and a colleague fled to Cuba at the end of the war, accompanied by Colquitt's wife. Colquitt had meanwhile surrendered in the field. Any details about Colquitt's family life? Valetude (talk) 00:08, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
My guess is that this ("When the war ended, he fled with his wife to Cuba, and then Paris, along with P.G.T. Beauregard and Julia Colquitt, wife of another Confederate general.") was about his brother Peyton Colquitt's wife, or rather widow, since she was named Julia, although Peyton was a Colonel (slated for promotion to General before he was killed in battle), not a General. Neither of Alfred's two wives were named Julia. I cannot read the entire American National Biography article on Toombs that is cited. This article "A Bonaparte Romance with a Georgia Belle" calls her a "young war widow in her early twenties" which would be consistent, and says she had a romance with a nephew of Napoleon III. [edit]No mention of slave-owning. I feel that this category should be restricted to people whose slave-owning history was notable in itself. Valetude (talk) 11:33, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
