Photo?
[edit]This photo may be Adolph Hardoe. It says the ship is called Adolf Harboe, which may be an error. Mjroots (talk) 17:07, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- Further research reveals that the ship was named Adolph Harboe, so I'd say that the photo is that of the ship. As it dates to between 1893 and 1905 and the author is unknown it's a PD image. Mjroots (talk) 18:36, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
Title
[edit]The title of this article suggests it's about the ship Alf, but the article is almost entirely about her wreck and the rescue of her crew. Indeed, the crew list is of the rescue lifeboat, not the ship. Should the article be re-titled? --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 14:04, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
- It seems a simple solution for this would be to add more info on the ship itself before discussing its sinking and to amend the lifeboat crew to reflect that its (I would assume) relevance to the article is ascertaining at least some of the names of the people who were aboard the ship when it sank. I looked quickly through some of the other ships included in Category:Shipwrecks in the North Sea and, from those few article I viewed, that the convention is to name the article after the ship, describe the ship itself and then mention its sinking--Supertouch (talk) 14:23, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
That works for me, if the information is available.--Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 14:40, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
- Well, before I added my twopenn'orth, the article was almost entirely about the sinking. I've done my best with the info available on the net. Mjroots (talk) 16:12, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
- For which I, at least, thank and commend you. I can't get over the number of obviously incomplete articles on Wikipedia.--Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 20:07, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
- The barque Alf only real claim to notability is the events surrounding its loss. Before this event it seems to had lead a unremarkable career. I started the article because it was the first rescue attended by Cromer lifeboat man Henry Blogg as the newly promoted Coxswain of the lifeboat. It could have been added to the Henry Blogg page but that would have made the article far to long. Maybe the article may be better headed the Loss of the barque Alf. stavros1 ♣ 14:00, 02 July 2010 (UTC)
