I understand there is some confusion about Alexei's name. On several sources he is listed as Alexei (Trader), which is similar to the Russian version of this wikipedia page (see https://orthochristian.com/108412.html and https://www.oca.org/clergy/alexei-trader). I was unable to find any sources confirming that that is his surname in English, however. The Russian wikipedia page lists his birth name as "John Trader" but the source they use doesn't state that.

I also don't believe there should be an issue with copy pasting, as most of the words flagged were name places, but I'd like to know what parts should be changed and how to address it in the future. Alexthegod5 (talk) 21:15, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Hi Alexthegod5. It seems to be a thing that bishops of the Greek Orthodox faith just use a mononym? If that's the case, that probably needs to be explained in a footnote.

Re the copy-pasting, a lot of the text seems to be word-for-word taken from this source: https://odosa.org/people/the-right-reverend-bishop-alexei-bishop-of-sitka-and-the-diocese-of-alaska - which is not allowed. Examples include "pious Christian household" and "As a child, he attended Roman Catholic parochial school." - the latter just has the word order slightly changed. From what I'm aware, it's not unheard of for priests to pick up a mononym. It is true that when ordained many priests are given a forename that is different from their birth name, so in this case bishop Alexei would likely not have been given that name. I would suggest moving this article to "Alexei Trader" on the assumption that Trader is his surname but I myself wasn't able to find a source confirming that. Perhaps moving this to "Alexei (Bishop)" would be more appropriate? I was wondering if that would only cause more confusion as (Trader) would still be in the article.

I really hate to beg the question, but for such a small article and detail I'm not entirely sure how one would go about rewriting that, especially the second sentence you gave as an example. Are three words together really enough to constitute as plagiarism? I only ask because I was planning on creating articles for other bishops and I just want to make sure it is done properly rather than trying to plug several holes at once. Moreover there doesn't seem to be much else on the biography of this person, so I was perhaps relying too much on a single source. Thanks. Alexthegod5 (talk) 17:02, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

Apologies for the double reply, but just wanted to clarify this bishop isn't Greek Orthodox as the Orthodox church of America was originally branched off from the Russian Orthodox Church. Alexthegod5 (talk) 17:04, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
