Recent edits by Ariadnecanfly
I have reverted the recent edits by Ariadnecanfly (twice now) for the following reasons:
- First, it's not appropriate to remove an image from an article's Infobox, and place it farther down in the article, unless you can replace the one in the Infobox with an adequate image.
- The section her "Personal life" contains only one sentence on this topic, which is the opening one on where she was born. The rest is on her career, which is not her "personal" life, but her professional, or public life.
- You don't put a prose section on the subject's life or career, then a Filmography table, and then another prose text section. Filmography tables generally go at the end of the text sections, or at least after the most relevant one, like the section on her career.
- The entire "Personal life" section is unsourced. WP:V, WP:NOR, WP:CS and WP:RS require reliable, verifiable sources sources to be explicitly cited in the text of the article. Material that lacks this must be removed, which is why I removed it.
- Moreover, since the "Personal life" section is mostly about her career, and includes mention of her casting in Percy Jackson, there is no reason to devote another entire section to that one movie. This is the article on Alexandra Daddario, not the film, and thus, the material in this article should focus on her. Mention of information to which she is only tangentially related should be limited and proportionate. Whether people have compared that book to Harry Potter, or what fans say, and whether there are sequels, is unsourced, and has nothing to do with Daddario. This section is also filled with misspelled words, arbitrary formatting, and incorrect assertions. (Avatar, for example, premiered in 2009, not 2010.) Better attention needs to be paid to these things in order to maintain the quality Wikipedia requires.
If you're new to Wikipedia, that's fine; I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have or aid you in editing. But please do not revert edits or add material to articles unless you do so according to the site's policies and guidelines, and can properly cite those policies in an edit summary when editing, or when disputing another editor's work. Not including edit summaries when editing is itself considered inappropriate. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 11:31, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Date of Birth
{{editprotected}}
I would like to put in the date of birth of this actress. I found the info on IMDB. --Tyw7 (Talk • Contributions) Changing the world one edit at a time! 12:04, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

- I would also like to add the source of the DOB into the article. Currently the article does not cite any sources. --Tyw7 (Talk • Contributions) Changing the world one edit at a time! 13:22, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- The source is IMDB, linked at the bottom. Uncontroversial things like DOB need not be referenced. In your first request, you need to actually include the exact things you want added because it will be someone else making the edits - we should not have to go looking for the information. The article does not get unlocked for you to edit, so we need to know the exact planned edit. Cheers (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 13:51, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia does not consider imdb to be a reliable source, because its content is user-generated, and lacks proper editorial controls.
The idea that uncontroversial things do not need to be referenced is false. All information needs to be sourced. It's a fundamental Wikipedia policy, upon which its reliability is predicated. Moreover, what is "controversial" is subjective. Go to a book festival, signing, or convention where there are a lot of celebrities, writers, etc., and you might find quite a few people who, when you tell them you edit Wikipedia, will complain to you about inaccuracies in their Wikipedia article, and yes, that includes their birth info.
Sources require inline citations, in the article text. Placing a link merely at the bottom of the article is not sufficient, because it does not allow readers to know which source supports which piece of information.
That information was already removed four times before today for these reasons. Today makes five. Please do not add it again witout citing in the article text a reliable, verifiable source that passes WP:RS. Nightscream (talk) 17:24, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- Which is a reliable source of DOB? Thanks! --Tyw7 (Talk • Contributions) Changing the world one edit at a time! 21:12, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

- That looks like a fan site. Notice how it says "Unofficial", rather than "Official" in the title. I've put in an inquiry at The Reliable Sources Noticeboard. Nightscream (talk) 01:44, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

- Not done: As mentioned above, that doesn't appear to be a reliable source. I would like to remind you that {{editprotected}} should not be used until you have consensus for an edit. Thanks — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:42, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Tyw7, why that second link? It doesn't mention her place of birth, and besides, the New York Times page mentions both the date and the place. Thanks for finding it. :-) Nightscream (talk) 19:36, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
- In case somebody want to argue that the New Your Times is not a good source. The second link DOES mention her date of birth. Skip the trailer and click on cast and crews. It will mention something like ... from New York or something--Tyw7 (Talk • Contributions) Changing the world one edit at a time! 21:33, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
??? Who would argue that The Times is not reliable? It's the largest newspaper in the country, and considered a newspaper of record. Besides, readers only have to click on it once, and be brought to the relevant information, whereas the official site has only one url for all its pages, requiring web surfers to click through the entrance page, then on Cast & Crew, and then on Alexandra. And even then, it mentions that she's a "native" of New York, but I couldn't find a date. The Times source is fine. In any event, thanks again. Nightscream (talk) 22:14, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
