Crust Origin
[edit]The origin of the crust underlying the Aleutian Basin is an open question in plate tectonics. It is possible that this oceanic crust is a captured portion of the Kula Plate, but it is also possible that the Aleutian Basin opened as a Paleogene Backarc Basin. Both hypotheses (and some variations on those end members) are still being discussed in the literature. Elriana (talk) 21:20, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
More subtopics
[edit]There is more to a basin than the basics of its tectonic history and geometry. Some other significant topics could include: role of the Aleutian Basin in ocean circulation, deepwater habitats, interesting fluid flow and hydrocarbon systems (David Scholl coined the name VAMP here in the 1970's), influence on weather and climate (including during past ice ages), exploration history. I'll add what I can if I have the time, but anyone could make a start on some of these topics. Elriana (talk) 21:21, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
