Aldreth copyvio

[edit]

Large sections of the article were removed due to being WP:COPYVIO taken from Reference.com:Aldreth. The previous version of the article can be seen here. Following removal, the article was demoted to stub class. Some external references were added to help future editors rebuild the article. --Senra (talk) 20:39, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The above was a mistake. When Reference.com:Aldreth was examined against this version of the Aldreth article, it looked as if the article was a copy from reference.com. It now appears that it is the other way around. So the article has been restored. The two sources The principal mediaeval text of the Hereward story: battle 1 and The principal mediaeval text of the Hereward story: battle 2 have been checked. The article paraphases the sources; it still needs a re-write to a more appropriate tone for the encyclopaedia.

Aldreth fort

[edit]

High danger of WP:OR here, so keeping it on the talk page. Reading the articles accounts of Herewards exploits (which, although colourful, I believe are correctly paraphrased from Gesta Herwardi) I began to wonder what archaeological records exist in the area. Looking at the OS map centred at TL423702GB we see Belsar's Hill which, coincidentally(?) has a National Monuments record. Could this be the site of the Aldreth fort? A search of archaeological records within 2km2 centred on Aldreth and then centred on Willingham, Cambridgeshire reveals more archaeological finds in the Willingham area (of course that just might mean there has been more digging there). Anyway, food for thought at least --Senra (talk) 23:56, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
