"Some feminine Swedes prefer the newer flavored malted beverages such as Smirnoff Ice." is kind of POV, don't you think? 217.213.152.180 21:15, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

dubious beer claims

[edit]

The claim

Since prehistory, beer has been the staple beverage in Sweden, drunk in extreme quantities to balance the salty food—pickled herring and (if affordable) salted pork were the major protein sources for most people.

is highly dubious. Its one chance at salvation is counting Swedish pre-history to a comparatively late date, likely past 1000. This has some minor justification in that written history is very scarce before that; however, there is historical knowledge about the time and using the term pre-history is misleading, when considering its usual connotations concerning time period.

Further, while the statement is true during large parts of the Swedish medieval period and some time past that, the claim is no longer true. Beer could still be considered the main alcoholic beverage, but not beverage in general, and the explanation about salty food is seriously outdated. 94.220.240.125 (talk) 09:02, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
