"Converted"

[edit]

Typically, a half-baked move has resulted in things being messed up; Alcatel formerly redirected to Alcatel Mobile Phones (the former phone division, now owned by TCL with the name used under license).

That wasn't satisfactory, as too many links obviously referred to the original Alcatel company or its successor Alcatel-Lucent.

I don't have time to fix up all the links right now, but we can't have Alcatel redirecting to the mobile phone page for the same reason. Unfortunately, we can't redirect it to Alcatel-Lucent either as some of the links probably *do* intend the mobile phone company.

And this mess, folks, shows why ill-thought-out page moves are A Bad Thing. >:-(

@Ubcule: I'm going through and fixing the links that need to go to the company and the mobile brand. Wish me luck. Pariah24 06:28, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Pariah24: Thanks for your effort on that, much appreciated. To tell the truth, I'd done a few myself, but I wasn't 100% sure whether it would be better to have Alcatel redirect to Alcatel Lucent and include a note there, but I think it's most important to have links going to the closest match, and you've definitely improved things a lot! Once again, thanks, Ubcule (talk) 13:30, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Pariah24: Finished the few remaining ones off myself now! :-) Ubcule (talk) 15:12, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Ubcule: Cool, thanks for finishing that up. That dab script is very helpful. At first I tried using WPCleaner but I guess it's outdated, I wish it worked well because it's a great program but it loads pages sluggishly. That's Java on Windows for you. I'd like to use AutoWikiBrowser but they seem stingy over there about who they grant access to. Pariah24 21:29, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Pariah24: I think I might have I used AWB a long, *long* time ago.
I'm not a fan of Java on Windows- or at least of giving it permission to come within sniffing distance of my browser- as it's always been a massive security hole and almost certainly the reason my home machine was hit by malware the last time it happened (several years ago).
At any rate, I did the Alcatel edits using this tool. I was actually going to mention it to you (as I thought it might be useful if you weren't already using something like it), but then I noticed you'd already used another automated tool in your edits, so I didn't bother.
