Death
[edit]According to Steven Runciman's "A History of the Crusades", Vol. III, Cambridge University Press, p. 138 (Exactly this edition, preview available) he was killed not by a cleric, but by the Assassins. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.219.186.93 (talk) 08:30, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- His source seems to be Claude Cahen, La Syrie du nord...which I can't access online. I wonder what Cahen says about it? Adam Bishop (talk) 09:16, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- Campbell says he was "assassinated": perhaps this is a misunderstanding, Campbell was using the word in its generic modern sense, but was misunderstood by Cahen as referring to the actual assassins? --dab (𒁳) 06:00, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
The Carmelite tradition says he was assassinated by a disgruntled priest whom he had reprimanded. 1.126.108.238 (talk) 21:47, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
"surname"
[edit]I suspect that his "surname" Avogadro is in origin just his job description as a canon lawyer or papal legate. (apparently Piedmontese avogad(r)o = avvocato). As far as I can tell, "Avogadro" only became a surname in the 14th century, when certain offices of "advocate" were made hereditary. But better references on this are needed. --dab (𒁳) 05:58, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Why is the title of the article Albert of Vercelli when he is far better known as Albert of Jerusalem, as shown by the sources cited in the article and the first line of the article itself? 1.126.108.238 (talk) 21:48, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
