Expansion of the Albert Gleizes Article
[edit]The Albert Gleizes article, prior to this extensive expansion, and prior to those additions of the past few days, was basically a long stub article. There were no references, or citations, little or no information about the writings of Gleizes, nor about his early Cubist epoch, or his Post-cubist period.
The objective of this expansion to make Wikipedia a one-stop location for information about Albert Gleizes, an updated world reference for the artist.
Photographs of some of his works have been published in this article; those that had been reproduced in publications before 1923.
The article now, is organized in chronological order: Early life, Cubism, the Crucial years (corresponding to ca. 1909-1912), Theory, 1913-1918 and his Post-Cubist period which extended until 1953, the year of his death. This last section is a bit longer than other sections since it covers many years of complex and dynamic artistic activity; painterly, theoretical, and aspects of the artist personal life.
Also, there is a brief section entitled Legacy, in the words of the art historian Daniel Robbins, and a Commemoration section (for the 100th anniversary of the publication of Du "Cubism", a seminal book written by Albert Gleizes and Jean Metzinger).
References have been added to the text that existed prior to this expansion.
Gleizes was a prolific writer. Seventeen books he has written are listed in the section 'Books by Albert Gleizes'. Another list, 'Writings by Albert Gleizes' includes articles by Gleizes, books in which he has written, unpublished and published manuscripts (in chronological order).
The Biography section includes books, and general studies of modern art that contain significant material about the artist.
Finally, the External links section permits immediate access to a selection of museum collections around the world (linking directly to works by Albert Gleizes).
Note: Rather than adding section by section to the article, I have copy-pasted the entire article, which has been reworked in the user Sandbox section. Coldcreation (talk) 17:29, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
