Nickname: "Kuq-e-zi"

Hi,
What does Albania's team nickname, "Kuq-e-zi", mean in English?
81.145.242.113 20:06, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

"Kuq-e-Zi" means "Red&Black"

Could someone remove the obvious vandalism? I deleted some of it, but I know nothing about international soccer teams. Especially this one. KillTheToy (talk) 21:31, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

1964?

did albania indeed participate in the 1964 european championship? from 1960-1976 the euro proper consisted of the tournament of the last four, held on one place. everything before that was qualification. which was organized sometimes in form of a k.o. system (like for 64), sometimes in a group system.--Severino (talk) 19:49, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

It participated in the qualifiers, see [[1]].Shqipnia12 (talk) 16:10, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

Best 23 (+1+1+1) mans squad

(In English)If you disagree with how wikipedia works, then open your own website and put the players that you want. This is a public site and you have to follow the rules. And.... a lot of people are advising you to change (see FCPKascais note in your talk page). From now on, let's discuss in English so that people can understand what we're talking about rather than using google translate. --DaJeweller (talk) 22:06, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
This is your third revert, and is bringing to the page people that have never been called up (Nuhiu), have not been called for 4 years (Berisha), and don't even play with U-21 (besides not having a page in wikipedia yet(Strakosha)). I had warned you not to revert, so I'll have to report you. --DaJeweller (talk) 22:10, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Ok, report me but you don't gain nothing cause early they only just make a exaggerated change but nothing more, as we talk about players: Atdhe Nuhiu, Besart Berisha and Thomas Strakosha, they will be soon, very soon part on national team. He will gain a lot, it is not the first time you are doing this and "they will be soon, very soon part on national team" is NOT a reason to include them. We follow fact on wikipedia and not what you feel is correct. QED237 (talk) 22:20, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Ok, you won this time, but better would be that these players to were included on national senior team, cause Atdhe Nuhiu is in a process to receive albanian passport, anyway this is story of our albanian's everywhere on the world --Eni.Sukthi.Durres (talk) 22:37, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

In regards of those three players, it's not a question of winning but reporting the correct info in wikipedia. And if you want to avoid getting blocked I will retract my request at the board only if you follow the advice of FKPCascais given to you in the talk page. You understand English pretty well, and you confirmed it to me too in Albanian that you fully grasp what he is saying. You should include in "Current squad" only the players called for the next friendly with Belarus, and the others can go below in "Recent call ups". Please do that, and I will retract my report, otherwise you seriously risk getting blocked probably for a week with your precedents. --DaJeweller (talk) 22:40, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
I fixed it, since you won't do it, Eni. --DaJeweller (talk) 00:19, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

Nickname

The phrase "Los Albaniardos" sounds ike a pseudo-Romance innovation to me: it is not something I can see as having any resemblance to Alabanian rendition of the name of the country, nor does it have any common currency. There are ony 5 occurrences in Google: 4 that are clearly derived from this edit and one in a light-hearted blog which I would suspect was sourced here. I would propose its removal unless there is some evidence of this nickname having genuine and widespread acceptance. Kevin McE 00:16, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out. I saw that it was removed. It must have been a joke. sulmues --198.185.66.249 (talk) 15:04, 14 August 2009 (UTC) With my regards, always for Albania, Estonian — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.28.73.24 (talk) 12:32, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Abandoned match against Serbia

I've seen many of yours citing that Lorik Cana has 81 caps after the 18 November match against Italy and I want to say that caps and goals for players doesn't count for the abandoned match against Serbia on 14 October. The most big website about national teams EU-Football.info (Albania) it doesn't count the abandoned match vs. Serbia and another national teams website even. So please do not edit any of players caps and goals because now are too much correct than ever, thank you.Eni.Sukthi.Durres (talk) 22:05, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Statistics

I saw this edit, and I think it was really made in good faith, as it's respecting the source, but it is not correct.

  1. The source has as first international game that of Albania vs Montenegro in 1946. Montenegro was not a country back then, so since we have to include only NT A teams games, that needs to be removed. I know it's included in that source, so we can discuss it, but I believe this is up for discussion.
  2. There are two games with Greece in 1963, which Albania didn't play, but won both 3-0, since Greece didn't show up for political reasons. Besnik Dizdari, perhaps the most relevant and qualified Albanian sports journalist tells us that they are both valid wins, as per UEFA documents, which must have been published in Panorama-Sport, but I can't see them online. Per UEFA documents it is Albania-Greece 3-0 and Greece-Albania 0-3. Other sources don't list them at all. This is the article of Besnik Dizdari. UEFA's website lists them simply as "forfeited" (see here). I believe they SHOULD be included as valid wins, since Greece forfeited both games and Albania advanced to the 1/8ths of finals to play Denmark for Euro 1964, but it's up for discussion.

Anyway, WITHOUT taking any of the three games above into consideration (1 victory against Montenegro which I believe SHOULD NOT BE included and 2 victories against Greece, which I believe SHOULD BE included), I have the following data in my records (which are infallible, :-)). Albania, as of August 27, 2015 has:

  1. 71 victories, 63 draws, and 160 losses (total of 294 games, which are only against NT A teams)
  2. 259 goals scored, 472 goals allowed

Also, in the article is not represented a friendly with China, played in China in 1957 (score Albania loses 2-3). Eloratings.net picks it up correctly http://eloratings.net/Albania.htm. With that, there should be a loss and a draw with China (right now only a draw is appearing): that should be fixed.

I can share via email my records with whomever wants to comment on them. Maestro Spinelloccio (talk) 15:09, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

The game vs Montenegro shouldn't definitely be considered because it was not FIFA or UEFA sponsored. The team of Montenegro was probably the team that played in the 1945 Yugoslav Football Tournament. You are doing a great work in clarifying all this. Best regards Maestro. FkpCascais (talk) 16:22, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for dropping by! The source itself has Montenegro*, not sure what the * means, but it is clearly showing a Montenegro different from the one that started playing in 2006. That means that we should remove the 1946 game from Albania's statistics. I suggest we have a note to clarify, that even though the game was the first one Albania ever played, it cannot be entered into statistics, because it was not against a NT A team. It is pretty much equivalent with the game that Albania played, for instance, against England B in 2006, which also is not valid for statistics. Thoughts? Maestro Spinelloccio (talk) 16:34, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
Oh, absolutely. That Montenegro from 1946 has nothing to do with Montenegro playing now since 2006. During Yugoslavia, the only national team was Yugoslavia national football team, and occasionally the Yugoslav republics (Montenegro among them) played friendly exhibition matches just as similarly Spanish autonomous regions do (like Catalonia, Galicia, etc). FkpCascais (talk) 17:30, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

As for Montenegro 1946s match I think we shouldn't remove it if it's sourced, also because was a national side altought it wasn't independent but part of Yugoslavia. As for two leged matches forfeited 3-0 against Greece let's add it them, @Maestro Spinelloccio: find sources and I will add it. Then other thing is if anyone (for example an admin of WikiprojectFootball) remove it, doesn't matter. Eni.Sukthi.Durres (talk) 17:51, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

@Eni.Sukthi.Durres: Eni:
  1. For the two games against Greece in 1963, you can use the Besnik Dizdari source and the UEFA source, which I provided above. The UEFA source says "forfeited". Per UEFA rules, a forfeited game is lost 0-3, and that goes into statistics. Greece lost them both and Dizdari published the UEFA document, that is sufficient as a source.
  2. For the Montenegro game of 1946, I still keep thinking it should be excluded, but the sources differ: Montenegro doesn't recognize its prior games, so it doesn't consider itself a continuation of the Montenegro entity, which came up with that team in 1946. As FkpCascais explained, that is a situation similar to Catalonia, Galicia. This is a different situation then, say Lithuania, Georgia, Armenia, Estonia, which recognize their pre WWII games. In addition, eloratings doesn't include the Montenegro game. Not sure why Kirill does that (he is inconsistent, as he includes the games of Albania against Kosovo, when Kosovo was not independent), and by the way, I just emailed him to include the Serbia-Albania 2014 game, as it's still not reflected in his database (whereas Montenegro-Russia 2015 is inluded). As a result, there is no source to support that Montenegro was a national team A back then, but, for respect of the main source we are using, I think we could add an asterisc (a note) to clarify the status of that Montenegro representative, whose only international game was against Albania. Again, I don't think it should be included in the statistics, but we will have an asterisc explaining that there was another game, however we are not including because of the fact that it wasn't a NT A team, and so on.
  3. The 3 games against Kosovo are included in my database and in eloratings.net, but I personally believe that at one point, we ought to have a discussion about whether it makes sense to have them or not for Wikipedia policies on national games. I would like to know @GiantSnowman:'s opinion about it too.
  4. The game against China in 1957 should be included: Use the eloratings.net source, that includes it.
Thank you! Maestro Spinelloccio (talk) 18:10, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
Eni, Montenegro in 1946 was not a "national side" but just a regional team. The game should be mentioned in the article, but never listed as fully international. FkpCascais (talk) 18:35, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
Regarding Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, the difference is that they were independent countries until the Soviet invasion in 1945, while Montenegro was not independent anytime near that date but part of Yugoslavia since 1918. Great difference. FkpCascais (talk)

- my only comments are a) avoid WP:OR and b) bear in mind WP:NOTSTATS. GiantSnowman 18:54, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, appreciate your comment. Other editors' comments would be welcome such as those of @Oltianruci: and @Sadsadas:, who have contributed particularly to the Albanian soccer pages, and I would welcome @FkpCascais: to comment not only on Montenegro, but also on the other issues, as well as to ping other experienced users such as him. Also taking a hint from the comment of GiantSnowman, it's probably worth splitting the statistics from the article and moving them into a separate article. --Maestro Spinelloccio (talk) 19:38, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
Hi everyone, I've only been able to have a skim read of this thread, but I personally have always had a problem with stats in Albania football, especially early history and during communism. I personally did not used to regard the Montenegro game in 1946 to be the NT's first game, rather the 1946 Albania v Yugoslavia football match, for which I created the article for as well. Montenegro was not a country back then so I don't think the case for recognising the game officially is very strong, but with that being said I'm not an expert on the matter and that would be up to other members of the Wiki community. Regarding the other games mentioned, the case for the Kosovo games is very weak, but the game against China in 57 seems legit to me. I do not know much about the Greece games unfortunately so I wouldn't be able to comment. Oltianruci (talk) 23:21, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
I fixed the matches against Greece and Montenegro. The two matches against Greece are valid, that against Montenegro isn't. --DjaliGaniut (talk) 15:49, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Propose to merge the main national article with the results article

Basing also in latest additions by @Sadsadas: and about my opinion, I propose that it would be better to merge this article with Albania national football team results into the section History, because every national football team here has it own history at the main article. Unofficial match

@EndritoxiPhotography: Regarding this edit: Is there any evidence about the "unofficial" match against Montenegro? Vanjagenije (talk) 08:37, 15 October 2018 (UTC)

Why do you care about that ?? Digitalb have an prove of that Match and Brocic tested the Squad of Albania against an Similar Side like Yugoslavia did to against the Kosovo province side in 1968! Xoni25 (talk) 13:14, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Drone incident v Serbia

Why does this article completely overlook the drone incident? Everything is written as if nothing happened, and that Albania scored three goals in 90 minutes against a Serbia team who scored none. Even the link to the match merely says 'crowd trouble'. Whitewashing?--MartinUK (talk) 11:50, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

You cant say it like that both sides did an Big Mistake but Serbia has to be blamed more they could prevented that in my Opinion... Xoni25 (talk) 13:11, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

I wouldnt say it like that. 1. The Serbian National Team and Fans did provocate first by saying things like kill Albanian because they are the brothers of Croats and many other racist things. 2. Also throwing some Bengalos on the Field. 3. After the Drone incident the Serbian Football "fans" did attack the Football players and even the Police did not stop them at all !! Then also even the Ordners who need and should make peace attacked our players like Ansi Agoli from behind and many others incidents happend their too. So it is deserved that Albania win with 3:0 and won the Match on merit... :) what serbia did just showed how brutal and racist they are ! Xonilatifi25 (talk) 21:59, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Albania Football History!

Why is nobody mentioned before what Albania did in the Euros 1964 was amazing Albania won their 3 matches in their campaign it should be more mentioned because at the end it was Albania first ever campaign in their young National Football History. 2. Albania did beat the third best Team in that Tournament in the Round of 16 Denmark in Tirana with a 1-0 win scored by Panajot Pano!

Or that in the EM 1968 Qualifications Albania did stop the German West National Team for qulalifiying on their first ever Tournemant with an 0:0 draw in Tirana a amazing feat too because one of the Biggest Nation failed to beat an newcomer in the process as a fact we did it too for our Under 21 National Team in 1984 were the finalist off the UEFA U21 Championship in 1982 failed to beat the Under 21 Albanian National Team too in the Qualification Groupstage. Were Albania reached the Quarterfinals back then by the way it was the most Golden Team in the history off Albanian Football!

Winning two Balkan Youth championships in 1978 and 1981 🏆🏆 against strong opposition in Greece Yugoslavia also Bulgaria Romania and Turkey, who clearly were more advanced in that time but Albania still never gave up and won it twice in a row.

Albania who never get the chance to tell his also beautiful Footbaling History! Xonilatifi25 (talk) 22:10, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
