Victories Belgian Championship

[edit]

Just wondering: English version states he won it 13 times, Dutch version mentions 12. Which one is it? Ryckaertb (talk) 22:20, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Name and title

[edit]

IIRC, O'Kelly was titled (in French) comte Albéric O'Kelly de Galway, which could let one think that his family belonged quite high in the Irish peerage (if there still is one, or otherwise in the Irish section of UK peerage before the foundation of the Irish Republic) as “Earl Alberic O'Kelly of Galway” or even as “Alberic O'Kelly, Earl of Galway”. I have however been told that this title of nobility had been created, not just recognized, by a Belgian Royal Decree. Is that true? And if it is, what gives the Belgian monarchy the right to give titles which sound as if they belonged in the Irish or UK peerage? — Tonymec (talk) 01:28, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The title was original granted to John O'Kelly (1672-1738), an Irish-born British Army officer in 1720. See [1] and [2], page 24. MaxBrowne (talk) 02:41, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
