[edit]I think that saying he's a Newcastle player is jumping the gun a touch. He won't be number 14, either. Probably 8.
---I think that the text should be changed to "he will miss...WC" because from what I've heard this injury is a year at the least

"He formerly played for Leeds and now plies his trade for rivals Manchester United." - er...rivals? I think not.Palefire 10:38, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
- One former Leeds player did leave for Manchester United when Leeds were actual challengers for the title (say, 4-5 years ago?), though I've forgotten who, and Leeds supporters criticised him for leaving for a 'rival', just as if, say, Francesc Fabregas left for Manchester United. Which was why, when Leeds were relegated from the Premiership, Alan Smith was slammed by supporters for leaving for Manchester United. x42bn6 Talk 03:29, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
- Off the top of my head, Eric Cantona left Leeds for Manchester United. Poulsen 20:58, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- -; Leeds is much more of a rival to Manchester United than Arsenal. There is geographic and historical rivalry between Leeds and United. Much like United and Liverpool. Arsenal have only recently come into 'rivalry' with United and only because of increased success... not history.

[edit]Does anyone have a better image than the current one, showing him bleeding from the head?
Seriously speaking, this image has beenswitched to another one, removed, reinserted, moved around and all plenty of times already. Is there a solution? x42bn6 Talk 08:30, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well it deffinitely shouldn't have that giant stamp on it - rst20xx 14:52, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
The only reason why that picture is there is because the other picture got deleted and having a picture there is better then having no picture at all. If you can get a picture without anyone else complaining about it, then feel free to replace it. Kingjeff 18:03, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
Pic definitely need changing. --Vindicta 00:42, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Ok. Can you find a pic to replace it? Someone in Wikipedia has a problem with the UEFA.com photos. Kingjeff 01:03, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
I don't know about the copyright laws though. There's loads of images on Google, but what's the wiki's policy on photos?--Vindicta 19:49, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Copyright#Image_guidelines. Basically, we are not allowed to put anything that is copyright onto Wikipedia. x42bn6 Talk 08:48, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- I have replaced the bloody and watermaked image with the cover from his DVD, Image:Alan Smith DVD.jpg. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 06:43, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
- Well, that has the Leeds Crest on it. He's a United player now. We got to find a new image.
- especially given that the tag suggests the image should only be used to illustate the dvd, rather than its subject --Cruci 12:06, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Leeds United Centre of Excellence
[edit]Does anyone know where I can get in on the Leeds United Centre of Excellence? I would like to start an article on it. Kingjeff 23:29, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
- Youth systems in English football have changed significantly since Smith first joined Leeds. Technically, the Leeds centre of excellence no longer exists, as Leeds now have an Academy system (for more information on the introduction of Academies, see the second half of [1]). Probably the best place to find out about the Leeds youth system is in Leeds United match programmes and club publications. Other than anything which is on the Leeds website, it is likely to be very difficult to find relevant information specific to the Leeds youth system online. (note to self: either improve Youth system or start an article on the Academy system) Oldelpaso 20:32, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
I really wasn't thinking about an article about any specific player in Leeds United youth system. I was thinking about just an article on the Leeds United youth system itself. Kingjeff 00:27, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
Is it just me or?
[edit]Does this page seem very biased. I mean "He has played centre-forward for most of his pathetic career." or "2001 - never again England"
or "Smith also caused controversy in the 2004 season when, in a League Cup game against Manchester United, he threw a bottle in the crowd after it was thrown on the field, incidentally hitting his grandma who he was sleeping with at the time. This incident landed Smith in hot water with his club and the FA."--Hell, where's the citation on that?
I think this page needs a lot of cleaning —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Yankeeboy1865 (talk • contribs) .

[edit]Was he born in Wakefield or Rothwell? - The Daddy 16:24, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
I think it's Rothwell. Kingjeff 16:25, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
I have read various articles about Al Smith that list him as being born either in Rothwell (in Lds) or Wakefield (a neighbouring city). To my knowledge (I live in Lds and have lived previously in both Rothwell and Wakey) I think the maternity hospital on Barnsley Road in Wakey would have been the nearest maternity hospital to Rthwll at the time, but of course, I may be wrong and he may have been born at home or something! The FA website (http://www.thefa.com/England/SeniorTeam/Archive/?pf=p&i=5598&ap=p&searchname=Smi) lists him as being born in Lds, so I reckon Rthwll is the best one to go for.Luke-Samual Ezekiel Cullen 20:30, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
We should use Leeds then. Since there is a source for it. Kingjeff 03:59, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
