Ajit V. Pai is an American lawyer. He became a Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission on May 14, 2012 for a term that concludes on June 30, 2016.[2]
Pai grew up in Parsons, Kansas.
Government and business experience
Immediately following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Martin L.C. Feldman of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.[3] After his clerkship, Pai worked for the United States Department of Justice Antitrust Division as an Honors Program trial attorney on the Telecommunications Task Force.[4] He worked on proposed mergers and acquisitions and requests for regulatory relief following the enactment of the Telecommunications Act of 1996.[5] Pai also served as Deputy Chief Counsel to the United States Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Administrative Oversight and the Courts and as Chief Counsel to the United States Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Human Rights.[6] From 2007 until 2011, he worked for the Federal Communications Commission's Office of General Counsel.[7] In 2011 and 2012, Pai worked in the Washington, DC office of Jenner & Block LLP.[8]
Personal
He and his wife Janine married on July 10, 2010.[9] They have a son named Alexander.[10]
